Federally funded research that provides a deep understanding of cancer is spurring advances against many types of the disease. With a strong bipartisan commitment from Congress to keep investment in biomedical research a national priority, we can accelerate our pace of progress and save more lives from cancer, according to the seventh annual American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Cancer Progress Report, released today. Basic research in the fields of immunology and cancer genetics has recently been harnessed to develop two new forms of cancer treatment: immunotherapy and precision medicine. As detailed in the report, the utility of these treatments is expanding rapidly. In May 2017, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) heralded a new dawn for precision medicine when it approved the immunotherapeutic pembrolizumab (Keytruda) for treating patients with any solid tumor harboring specific genetic characteristics. This is the first anticancer therapeutic approved based on cancer biomarkers rather than the location in the body where the cancer originated. To coincide with Valentine’s Day, the Ad Council, R/GA and an unprecedented group of brand partners launched, “Fans of Love,” an extension of the iconic Love Has No Labels campaign. The new PSAs, filmed live at the NFL Pro Bowl in Orlando in January, put a twist on the traditional kiss cam by replacing it with an unbiased camera that features all forms of love –friendships, families and romantic relationships– across race, religion, gender, sexuality, ability and age. The goal of the campaign has always been to flood culture with a message of unbiased love, but this year, they’re doing so by actually reframing an iconic part of culture. “On Valentine’s Day ‘Fans of Love’ highlights that love has the power to bring people together regardless of our differences – a message that is more important now than ever,” said Lisa Sherman, president and CEO of the Ad Council. “We hope that this new creative will encourage all of us to reflect on our own biases and the role we can play in creating a more accepting and inclusive world.”

Pixee Fox, who has undergone many plastic surgeries from eye color implant to breast implant, butt lifting, and 6 ribs removal, travelled to Istanbul last week to be one step closer to her dream of becoming a cartoon character. Pixee shared the results of her Spider Web non surgical Face Lifting procedure, which was developed by Aesthetic Surgeon Bülent Cihantimur M.D. Dr. Bülent Cihantimur, who listened to and examined Pixee Fox at his Istabul Byomed clinic prior to application, said: “Pixee was in need of a solution for her round face. She said she did not like her U shaped face and was looking for a V shaped contour line. Upon a friend’s recommendation, she went on my website and researched about Spider Web Face Lifting. After making contact, she came to Istanbul to undergo the Spider Web Face Lifting.” Cihantimur contıunes: “The Spider Web Technique is a non-surgical procedure that shrinks, rejuvenates, and forms the face. In this technique I developed, fine needles are used to net medical threads that can dissolve just like a spider’s web under the skin. The body reacts to these threads and nets its own biological net around them. It boosts collagen production and increases lowered elastin.”

Imagine being diagnosed with one of the most rare and aggressive forms of breast cancer, given a five percent chance to live and told having children will never be an option. Southern California local Kommah McDowell was told just that— and then she went to City of Hope. It is estimated that almost 40 percent of men and women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cancer sometime during their lifetime. Kommah, who was diagnosed at age 29, now has her health and her son, thanks to discoveries made at City of Hope, where scientists and doctors turn laboratory breakthroughs into treatments that defeat cancer. Today, the nonprofit research and comprehensive cancer center near Los Angeles is rolling out a new initiative that builds on its legacy of discovery to let people know that City of Hope not only offers a uniquely patient-centric, integrated approach to care, but also with the help of donors and volunteers, it is pursuing research that will change the future of medicine.
