The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) and Teva Respiratory released results today from a new survey which showed that more than half (59 percent) of nasal allergy sufferers polled reported sleep issues as a result of their allergy symptoms, yet only 35 percent proactively treat their nasal allergy symptoms. Furthermore, nearly half of those surveyed (48 percent) said their nasal allergy symptoms, such as nasal congestion and sneezing, also interrupted their partner’s sleep.

Extending its award-winning “Learn the Signs” campaign, Autism Speaks – the world’s leading autism science and advocacy organization – today joined the Ad Council, along with partner agencies BBDO New York and LatinWorks, to announce the launch of a new series of public service advertisements (PSAs) designed to reach African American and Hispanic parents. According to research, children in these communities are often diagnosed later than the average. The PSAs, which are being distributed to media outlets nationwide this week, show some of the early signs of autism and encourage parents to take immediate action if their child is not meeting standard developmental milestones.

Takeda today announced the launch of a new expert Report on COPD, introduced at a Takeda organised press conference on the occasion of the 2012 European Respiratory Society (ERS) Annual Congress taking place from 1- 5 September in Vienna, Austria.
The Report, entitled ‘The Shifting Paradigm in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Management,’ was initiated and developed by Takeda Pharmaceuticals International GmbH and is a compilation of opinion articles from a panel of key international respiratory experts, the European Federation of Allergy and Airways Diseases Patients’ Association (EFA) and COPD patients, reflecting updated guidance and research. The new expert Report was developed in response to a recent shift in emphasis in COPD management which now places future risk at equal importance to treatment of current disability. Treatment objectives are now divided into two groups: reducing symptoms and reducing risk.

In a recent American Heart Association/American Stroke Association survey, only 41 percent of people who care for family with significant risk factors for a first-time stroke could name at least three stroke warning signs.
As part of World Stroke Day on Oct. 29, and National Family Caregivers Month in November, the American Stroke Association is urging Americans to learn the stroke warning signs and to act fast when a stroke occurs.

A new survey commissioned by Mucinex, the number one over-the-counter brand* in America, reveals that more than 158 million Americans (63 percent of the adult population) would try to hide being sick so they wouldn’t have FOMO (fear of missing out) on doing things they wanted to do. However, more than 206 million Americans (82 percent of those surveyed) would agree that when they see people out and about when they are sick, they wish those battling cold and flu symptoms stayed home instead. As the number of people living with Alzheimer’s disease soars, so does the number of family caregivers. The European Parkinson’s Disease Association (EPDA) has launched the third and final booklet in its Life with Parkinson’s series. This latest edition concludes a four-year awareness campaign, which aims to highlight the lack of understanding and knowledge concerning Parkinson’s that exists throughout Europe today.
