Während die Autoverkäufe in Europa unter diversen Krisen schwächeln, ist in China davon nichts zu merken. Die Absatzzahlen steigen seit Jahren stetig an. Darum ist die Shanghai Autoshow für die Hersteller auch eine der wichtigsten im Kalender. VW zeigt die innovative Studie CrossBlue Coupé. Ein 415 PS starkes SUV das von einem V6-Benziner und zwei Elektromotoren befeuert wird, aber nur drei Liter auf 100 Kilometer verbraucht. Mit dem neuen Rapid dürfte Skoda das richtige Auto für die Chinesen haben, die sich zum ersten Mal überhaupt ein Auto kaufen. Auch wenn das für uns kaum vorstellbar ist, gibt es davon im Reich der Mitte immer noch eine ganze Menge. Opel ist nach fünfjähriger Abstinenz wieder auf der wichtigsten Automesse Chinas und hat dazu drei neue Modelle, die im Laufe des Jahres dort auf den Markt kommen werden, mitgebracht. Die Autoshow in Shanghai zeigt, dass das Auto im boomenden China einen ganz hohen Stellenwert hat. Auch wenn inzwischen das Thema Umweltverträglichkeit wichtiger geworden ist, als noch vor einigen Jahren, ist es mehr als nur ein Transportmittel. Vielmehr ist das richtige Auto ein Accessoire um sein Image aufzupolieren und Eindruck zu machen. Und Europäische Autos werden deshalb auch zukünftig in der Käufergunst weiter vorne liegen.
Am Vorabend der Auto Shanghai 2013 hat der Volkswagen-Konzern bei seiner traditionellen Group Night nicht nur die automobilen Highlights seines Markenspektrums gezeigt, sondern auch seine Verbundenheit zum Standort China unterstrichen. Ist es doch genau 30 Jahre her, als im April 1983 der erste in China gefertigte Santana vom Band rollte. Eingerahmt von zahlreichen künstlerischen Darbietungen, die begeistert beklatscht wurden, wurden aber auch die auf der Messe zu besichtigenden neuen Modelle gewürdigt. Angefangen von den beiden Weltpremieren des VW CrossBlue Coupé, mit dem die Wolfsburger einen Ausblick in die SUV-Zukunft geben, und der Audi A3 Limousine führte die Autoparade über den XL 1, den Bentley Flying Spur, den Skoda Superb, den Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse, der Seat Leon SC und den Porsche RS bis hin zum Lamborghini Aventador LP Anniversario. Und auch der Motorradbereich fehlte natürlich mit einer Ducati Chavel ebenso nicht wie Lkw von MAN und Scania, die aus Platzgründen allerdings vor der Halle geparkt werden mussten.
Fifteen of 17 booster seats introduced in 2012 earn the top rating of BEST BET from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, evidence that more than ever, manufacturers are designing seats to provide good safety belt fit for booster-age children.
The improvements mean that BEST BET boosters now outnumber seats in any of the three other categories for the first time since the Institute released its inaugural booster ratings in 2008. Boosters are supposed to improve how adult lap and shoulder belts fit children so the belts can properly restrain them in crashes. BEST BET boosters correctly position belts on a typical 4-to-8-year-old child in almost any car, minivan or SUV.
The much anticipated Porsche Macan compact SUV, the fifth model line for Porsche, was ceremoniously unveiled to a massive international audience during a press conference at the L.A. Convention Center in Petree Hall today. The Macan was the brightest but not the only highlight that Porsche brought to Los Angeles. The new 911 Turbo Cabriolet, 911 Turbo S Cabriolet, the Panamera Turbo S and Panamera Turbo S Executive, and the 918 Spyder also took a bow to the many journalists either as world premieres or North American debuts.

The 2014 Subaru Forester is the first vehicle to ace every aspect of the challenging small overlap front crash test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The Forester, the only 1 of 13 small SUVs to earn an overall rating of good in the test, and the 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, which earns acceptable, are the latest vehicles to qualify for the Institute’s recently inaugurated top honor, TOP SAFETY PICK+. Each of the other 11 SUVs earns either a poor or marginal rating.

Beim traditionellen Volkswagen-Konzern-Treffen am Vorabend des Genfer Autosalons gab es eine spannende Frage – welche Weltpremieren, welche Studien würden hier vorab präsentiert, welche erst am ersten Messetag. Denn angesichts der wahren Neuheitenflut war eine Auswahl unumgänglich. Nun, man entschied sich für eine gesunde Mischung und fand damit bei den über 1.200 geladenen Gästen großen Anklang. Die dritte Generation des Audi TT, der Huracan als Nachfolger des Lamborghini Gallardo, der „Rembrandt Bugatti“ als weitere Sonderedition des Veyron 16,4 Grand Sport Vitesse, der Continental GT Speed als schnellster Bentley aller Zeiten sowie der Seat Leon Cupra zeigten das Hier und Jetzt. Die Skoda-Designstudie „VisionC“ und das sechssitzige Konzeptfahrzeug „Clipper“ von Giugiaro dagegen unterschiedliche Ansätze, wie die automobile Zukunft aussehen könnte. Für den Spagat zwischen Konzeptfahrzeug und Serie zuständig aren der T-ROC, mit dem Volkswagen zwischen Tiguan und Touareg eine neue SUV-Baureihe etablieren wird und die Alltrack-Studie für den VW Multivan, der schon sehr bald auf unseren Straßen zu sehen sein dürfte. Ein vielfältigeres Angebot kann derzeit kein anderer Autokonzern bieten.
In a new round of evaluations, 5 of 7 small SUVs earn good ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety for occupant protection in a passenger-side small overlap front crash.
The ratings bring to 16 the number of small SUVs the Institute has evaluated in the passenger-side small overlap front test, which was introduced in 2017 to encourage manufacturers to offer the same level of protection for front-seat passengers as drivers in this type of crash.
The BMW X1; Chevrolet Equinox and its twin, the GMC Terrain; Jeep Compass and Mitsubishi Outlander earn good ratings in the passenger-side small overlap front test. The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport earns a marginal rating, and the Ford Escape earns poor. For the 2018 model year, the Equinox shed weight to join the small SUV size class. Earlier models were classified as midsize.
None of the newly rated 2018 models earns better than acceptable marks for structure. (The Honda CR-V and Mazda CX-5 are the only small SUVs evaluated so far to earn good ratings for structure in the passenger-side small overlap front test.) The Outlander Sport is marginal, and the Escape is rated poor. Both the Outlander Sport and Escape allowed too much intrusion into the occupant compartment on the right side.
