At the end of February 2015, a lantern donation and lighting ceremony was held in the village of Sone, in Indonesia's West Timor, as part of a related project. The “Cut Out the Darkness” project, a part of Panasonic Corporation's “100 Thousand Solar Lanterns Project”, delivers solar lanterns with lantern shades designed by people from around the world, in the hope of learning about the challenges of living in areas that have no electricity.

Super hero fans around the country had a chance to put their own Spidey senses to the test by creating original DIY suits inspired by Sony Pictures’ new movie, “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” in theaters today, Friday, July 7 in the U.S. After narrowing the entries down to 10 semi-finalists and then five finalists, one especially crafty entrant won a trip to the world premiere screening of “Spider-Man: Homecoming” on Wednesday, June 28, 2017.
Tiffany Mink (@tiffmink) turned a red dress found at her local Goodwill store into a full-fledged, head-to-toe super hero outfit. Her video showing how she created the suit, along with the submissions from the other finalists, can be viewed at spidermandiy.com. Entrants were encouraged to put their super hero love to work alongside their senses of style, and to act as community heroes by sourcing materials for their suits from Goodwill, where the sale of donated goods creates job preparation, skills training, education assistance and support services for people who face challenges to finding employment. Tiff’s purchases equates to 40 minutes of job search training for a Goodwill participant.

With 830 women dying every day from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth, and over 16,000 children under age five dying daily, Bayer and the White Ribbon Alliance today released critical policy recommendations and launched community programs to support the reduction and prevention of maternal, newborn and child mortality in two developing countries.1,2
Established through a three-year $1.3 million commitment from Bayer, these programs will expand work conducted by White Ribbon Alliance in Bangladesh and Zimbabwe to support the United Nations Secretary General’s Every Woman Every Child movement.
This announcement comes at the one-year anniversary of the Bayer/White Ribbon Alliance commitment in support of the Every Woman Every Child movement and will contribute to the success of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Last year, Columbia Crest became the first winery to crowdsource a wine from vineyard to table through an interactive online community experience called Crowdsourced™ Cabernet. While the resulting wine of the 2014 vintage ages in barrel, the Crowdsourced Cabernet community will still have the chance to weigh-in on important winemaking decisions. First, Columbia Crest will be expanding the program by adding a 2015 vintage and allowing one lucky fan to play a larger role in the winemaking process. As hundreds of admiring fans bid Wilmer Valderrama an enthusiastic farewell as he headed to the airport in Brownsville, Texas, it was clear this is a passionate community filled with people who are proud of their home, heritage and stories. This journey to the U.S.-Mexico border was part of Johnnie Walker’s new campaign, Keep Walking America, which celebrates the cultural progress and diversity that is shaping the new face of America today. While on the border, Valderrama got up close and personal with the people and places that define this iconic border town. He walked the fence-line of the border along the Rio Grande, witnessed the daily ebb and flow of people crossing the International Bridge, and spoke with several hometown heroes to learn about their dreams, struggles and stories of personal progress.

As the most-visited travel destination in the United States, the Orlando tourism community was quickly up and running post-Hurricane Irma, hosting eager visitors from around the world. Due to a strong tourism infrastructure that hosts an average of 500,000 visitors a day, the region maintains a high level of preparedness for storms and historically resumes operations soon after.

As National Manufacturing Month begins, Whirlpool Corporation is celebrating its history and embracing progress in the manufacturing industry. Whirlpool Corporation is proud to be a Gold Supporter of Manufacturing Day 2017 and will be marking the day with a series of events in the local communities of its manufacturing plants across the country.
Whirlpool Corporation will invite select groups of high school and college students as well as community leaders to take part in a variety of activities at its U.S. plants. Programming will include: tours of the facilities, video presentations, and question-and-answer sessions. Whirlpool Corporation will also visit area schools, and employees will be involved with collaborative manufacturing-related class projects designed to educate students on the industry.
