Parents and grandparents rarely disagree about how cute their (grand)children are, but when it comes to setting up safe sleep environments for babies, the two generations don’t always concur, according to a new study conducted by Ipsos Public Affairs on behalf of HALO Innovations in time for National Baby Safety Month. The survey found that the majority of parents and grandparents agree that Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is their top concern in raising their children. However, grandparents are more likely than parents to place babies on their sides or stomachs to sleep, and more likely to place potentially dangerous objects in babies’ cribs, increasing their risk for SIDS and accidental suffocation. Permeable or not, this is in the case of glass, in fact the question. Light shines through, this is what most people think, however, this is not quite true. Low iron glass is aimed to protect cells, but it is supposed to also let more light energy shine on the modules than normal window glass. On the other hand, modern three-or four-glazed windows let light through, but form an energy-saving temperature barrier. This way in the winter the cold stays outside and the heat inside. In the summer modern windows can automatically darken and prevent the room from heating up - energy for air conditioning is therefore saved. Glass has a lot of potential, a fact the visitors to the trade fairs glasstec and solarpeq in Düsseldorf, will have the chance to convince themselves of.

The American Pain Foundation (APF), in partnership with professional baseball player LaTroy Hawkins, acknowledges those suffering from Postherpetic Neuralgia (PHN) today, as it recognizes the second annual PHN Awareness Day. PHN Awareness Day was created to raise awareness to the pain caused by shingles and PHN, also known as after-shingles pain. Shingles is caused by the reactivation of the same virus that causes chickenpox and can affect an individual who has had chickenpox at anytime without warning. More than 90 percent of adults in the United States have had chickenpox, placing them at risk for shingles. One in every five of the 1 million Americans who have had shingles each year may go on to develop PHN, a potentially devastating condition that disproportionately affects those over the age of 50 or with weakened immune systems.
