FTC announced last week that despite Myspace’s telling users that it will not share personally identifiable data with others; it gave advertisers “Friend ID” numbers of users. This enabled advertisers to search the users’ publicly available personal data such as full names and could even lead to discovery of their web activity. The terms of the settlement specified that Myspace is not going to misrepresent its privacy policies while implementing a comprehensive privacy program. In the lead-up to Lung Cancer Awareness Month this November, the ‘future face’ of women’s cancer is being revealed. While new data published last month by Cancer Research UK suggests the number of women dying from breast cancer in the UK is in decline – expected to drop almost 30 percent by 2030 – the number of women dying from lung cancer is on the increase.
Liz Darlison, Macmillan Consultant Nurse Specialist, University Hospitals of Leicester, says, “While the statistics paint a frightening picture, there’s a great deal that can be done to help ensure women are diagnosed earlier, treated earlier and live longer. According to State Farm® claims data, more cooking fires occur on Thanksgiving than any other day of the year. In fact, grease and cooking-related claims more than double on Thanksgiving Day compared to an average day in November.
With the popularity of turkey frying, people are at risk for fryer related fires and injuries. U.S. fire departments are responding to more than 1,000 fires each year in which a deep fryer is involved. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) says deep fryer fires result in more than $15 million in property damage each year and hot oil splatter can cause serious burns to an adult or life threatening injuries to a child.

While the total number of infected individuals is unknown due to a lack of available data, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that approximately 150 million people globally are currently living with the blood-borne infectious disease, HCV. Of these, up to two thirds will develop chronic liver disease and one in five will develop cirrhosis. HCV is also the leading cause of liver transplantation worldwide and in the US the disease now accounts for more deaths than HIV.
