Lovers of art, history and gardens will encounter a feast for the senses during the Tiffany at Biltmore exhibition, now open at Biltmore, George Vanderbilt’s 8,000-acre mountain estate.
The exhibition of stained-glass lamps created by Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848-1933) and The Tiffany Studios fills the Biltmore Legacy exhibition hall in the estate’s Antler Hill Village. Known as “Tiffany Lamps: Articles of Utility, Objects of Art,” the exhibition comes to Biltmore from The Neustadt Collection of Tiffany Glass in New York City. The Irish will welcome over 50 majestic Tall Ships from 12 countries, some 1,400 sail trainees and an anticipated 500,000 maritime, music and festival fans to the quays of Waterford City this weekend for the biggest party of 2011.
The Tall Ships Races, which first visited the Viking city in 2005, return this year from 30 June to 3 July with a world-class festival programme capturing the very best of Irish and international acts, street theatre, fireworks, music and food.

The Pew Clean Energy Program launched a video this week to raise awareness of the benefits of increasing the fuel efficiency—or miles-per-gallon (MPG)—standards for cars and light trucks to as high as 60 MPG by 2025. The Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Transportation (EPA-DOT) are expected to release a proposed joint rule by Sept. 30, 2011, that will elevate fuel efficiency fleet wide to a level between 47 and 62 miles per gallon for cars and light trucks, model years 2017-2025.

The second half of 2011 will be volatile and the uncertainty almost as great as during the financial crisis.
