Cigna (NYSE: CI) today unveiled its new TV Doctors of America campaign to encourage people to improve their health by going for their annual check-up, knowing their biometric numbers for blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and body mass index (BMI), and taking control of their health. Supporting Cigna’s effort are actors Patrick Dempsey, Donald Faison, Neil Patrick Harris and Kate Walsh. All four actors starred as doctors on TV and are striking doctor poses, donning scrubs and using their celebrity influence to shine a spotlight on preventive care and the importance of going to a real doctor for an annual check-up that can help save lives.

Texas Instruments (TI) today announced the TI-Innovator™ Rover, the company’s first robotics solution for middle and high school students that makes learning STEM subjects a moving experience. Students can write programs on their TI graphing calculators that get Rover’s wheels turning and their minds learning in a fun, interactive and hands-on way.
Rover connects to the TI-Innovator Hub and either a TI-84 Plus CE or TI-Nspire™ CX graphing calculator that many students already have and drives interest and curiosity in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) subjects. Students without any exposure to coding or robotics can get started by writing a basic program to make Rover do things like draw, dance or even crash.

Federally funded research that provides a deep understanding of cancer is spurring advances against many types of the disease. With a strong bipartisan commitment from Congress to keep investment in biomedical research a national priority, we can accelerate our pace of progress and save more lives from cancer, according to the seventh annual American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Cancer Progress Report, released today.
Basic research in the fields of immunology and cancer genetics has recently been harnessed to develop two new forms of cancer treatment: immunotherapy and precision medicine. As detailed in the report, the utility of these treatments is expanding rapidly. In May 2017, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) heralded a new dawn for precision medicine when it approved the immunotherapeutic pembrolizumab (Keytruda) for treating patients with any solid tumor harboring specific genetic characteristics. This is the first anticancer therapeutic approved based on cancer biomarkers rather than the location in the body where the cancer originated.
