The bond between pets and their owners is unbreakable, but the lack of pet-friendly housing options for domestic violence victims often leaves them with a heartbreaking decision – endure abuse in order to stay with their beloved pet, or leave their pet behind. It is a decision that no pet owner should have to make, which is why RedRover and Purina are joining forces to introduce the Purple Leash Project. This project will empower more domestic violence shelters across the United States to become pet-friendly, so domestic abuse victims can escape with their pets and begin to heal together as survivors. Positive strides have been made since 1995 to advance science literacy in the United States, but teachers and parents agree that more hands-on, experiential learning must be adopted in order to improve science education for future generations, according to the results of the 2015 Bayer Facts of Science Education Survey released today. For 20 years, Bayer has issued the survey, which assesses science education in the United States and evaluates its development. Although positive strides have been made, survey results emphasize the critical need to improve science education and literacy for future generations. Teachers, for example, universally agree (99 percent) that more hands-on experiential learning in general would benefit student learning. In response, Bayer is announcing a five-year commitment to provide 1 million hands-on science learning experiences for children by 2020, timed to the 20th anniversary of the Making Science Make Sense® program, Bayer’s company-wide initiative that advances science literacy across the United States. The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR) today announced a new, national effort aimed at ending hunger in the communities Kroger calls home and eliminating waste across the company by 2025. “No family in a community we serve should ever go hungry, and no food in a store we operate should ever go to waste ,” said Rodney McMullen, Kroger’s chairman and CEO. Across the United States, 42 million Americans struggle with hunger. At the same time, an estimated 72 billion pounds of food ends up in a landfill every year. “More than 40 percent of the food produced in the U.S. each year goes unconsumed, while one in eight people struggle with hunger. That just doesn’t make sense,” Mr. McMullen said. “As America’s grocer and one of the largest retailers in the world, we are committing to doing something about it.” To view the multimedia release go to: https://www.multivu.com/players/English/8164551-kroger-zero-hunger-zero-waste/

An estimated 48 million people in the United States have hearing loss, yet only 20 percent of people who could benefit from a hearing aid wear one. Cost is a major barrier as the average price of a hearing aid is $1,500 per ear, and can run as high as $3,000-$5,000 each. With the introduction of HearTEK™ Leasing from EPIC Hearing Healthcare (EPIC), individuals with hearing loss now have access to the latest name brand hearing aid technology without the barrier of huge upfront costs and with the peace of mind that they will not be locked into out-of-date technology. “Consumers have gotten used to many of the benefits of leasing their smartphones – no one wants to pay upfront for technology that could be quickly outdated as hearing aid manufacturers regularly introduce new devices with updated features,” said Brad Volkmer, president and CEO, EPIC Hearing Healthcare. “The HearTEK Leasing program is an affordable new way to give more people with hearing loss access to quality hearing aid technology, so they can start hearing life to the fullest.” To view the multimedia release go to: http://www.multivu.com/players/English/7808551-epic-heartek-leasing-hearing-aid/

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has proposed sweeping regulations that would require states to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from the electricity sector by an average of 30 percent nationally. This costly plan is another step in the administration's policies designed to eliminate low cost and reliable electricity and replace it with more expensive and less reliable sources. "The rule is a stunning attempt to remake the nation's entire electric grid at great cost to households and businesses across the US. Our manufacturing base will become less competitive because of higher electricity prices. The impact of this regulation will be felt by families as they will spend more to heat and cool their homes. Those on fixed incomes and seniors will be forced to pay a disproportionately higher share of their monthly budget on utilities," said Hal Quinn, president and CEO, National Mining Association."
