Phenogen Sciences, Inc. today announced the availability of BREVAGenplus, an easy-to-use predictive risk test for the millions of women at risk of developing sporadic, or non-hereditary, breast cancer. The test is an enhancement of the company’s first generation product, BREVAGen®. BREVAGenplus assesses both clinical risk factors and genetic markers known to be associated with sporadic, or non-hereditary, breast cancer to determine a woman’s five-year and lifetime risk of developing the disease. The test is designed to facilitate better informed decisions about breast cancer screening and preventive treatment plans for Caucasian, Hispanic and African-American women, age 35 years or above, who have not had breast cancer, lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS) or ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), and have one or more risk factors for developing breast cancer.

Super hero fans around the country had a chance to put their own Spidey senses to the test by creating original DIY suits inspired by Sony Pictures’ new movie, “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” in theaters today, Friday, July 7 in the U.S. After narrowing the entries down to 10 semi-finalists and then five finalists, one especially crafty entrant won a trip to the world premiere screening of “Spider-Man: Homecoming” on Wednesday, June 28, 2017.
Tiffany Mink (@tiffmink) turned a red dress found at her local Goodwill store into a full-fledged, head-to-toe super hero outfit. Her video showing how she created the suit, along with the submissions from the other finalists, can be viewed at spidermandiy.com. Entrants were encouraged to put their super hero love to work alongside their senses of style, and to act as community heroes by sourcing materials for their suits from Goodwill, where the sale of donated goods creates job preparation, skills training, education assistance and support services for people who face challenges to finding employment. Tiff’s purchases equates to 40 minutes of job search training for a Goodwill participant.

Nearly five dozen 2019 models meet stricter criteria to qualify for a 2019 TOP SAFETY PICK+ or TOP SAFETY PICK award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The 30 first-tier “plus” award winners earn the highest rating for passenger-side protection in a small overlap front crash and have good-rated available headlights, while the 27 winners of the second-tier award qualify with an acceptable or higher rating in the newest IIHS crash test and the nighttime headlight evaluation.
All 57 vehicles in this elite group earn good ratings in the Institute’s five other crashworthiness evaluations and have an available automatic emergency braking system that rates advanced or superior for front crash prevention.
IIHS now requires a good rating in the passenger-side small overlap front test to earn a 2019 TOP SAFETY PICK+ versus an acceptable or good rating for the 2018 award. An acceptable or good rating in the passenger-side test is a new criterion to earn a 2019 TOP SAFETY PICK.
This marks the sixth time that IIHS has raised the bar to earn the TOP SAFETY PICK+ award since introducing it in the 2013 model year to recognize vehicles that offer a superior level of safety. The TOP SAFETY PICK accolade launched in the 2006 model year to help consumers identify vehicles with the highest ratings. Over the years, IIHS has added to and strengthened criteria for both awards to encourage manufacturers to speed up safety advances.
Adults have gotten the message that it’s safer for kids to ride in the back seat properly restrained, but when it comes to their own safety, there is a common misperception that buckling up is optional. Among adults who admit to not always using safety belts in the back seat, 4 out of 5 surveyed by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety say short trips or traveling by taxi or ride-hailing service are times they don’t bother to use the belt.
The new survey reveals that many rear-seat passengers don’t think belts are necessary because they perceive the back seat to be safer than the front. This shows a clear misunderstanding about why belts are important, no matter where a person sits in a vehicle.
Before the majority of Americans got into the habit of buckling up, the back seat was the safest place to sit, and the center rear seat was the safest place of all in 1960-70s’ era vehicles. In recent decades, high levels of restraint use, the advent of belt pretensioners, load limiters and airbags, plus crashworthy vehicle designs have narrowed the safety advantages of riding in the rear seat for teens and adults.

Powered Car then headed back to the RAC Driving Centre where further
tests were conducted to investigate initial findings from the road

Auch über die korrekte Beladung des Wohnmobils, sollten sich Reisende vorab genau informieren. Falsch gesicherte Ladung kann nicht nur die Insassen verletzen, sondern auch die Fahrstabilität des Wohnmobils beeinflussen. Um die Wahl des passenden Wohnmobils zu erleichtern hat der ADAC fünf Modelle getestet. Nachgestellt wurde eine Urlaubsfahrt mit voll beladenen Wohnmobilen der Hersteller Frankia, Adria, Sun Living und Hymer (Gewichtsklasse von 3,3 bis 4,2 Tonnen), mit und ohne ESP. Ergebnis: Beim Ausweichtest könnten ungeübte Fahrer ohne ESP Probleme durch die Schleuderneigung und das Pendeln bekommen. Hier empfiehlt der ADAC die Modelle von Frankia und Hymer (mit ESP), die im ADAC Test das Urteil „gut“ erhielten. Der Adria (mit ESP), der Frankia und der Sun Living (beide ohne ESP) schnitten mit „befriedigend“ ab, der Hymer (gefahren ohne ESP) erreicht ein „ausreichend“. ESP ist zwar kein Wundermittel, das alle Fahrfehler ausbügelt, aber das Regelsystem hilft dem ungeübten Gelegenheitsfahrer in gefährlichen Situationen Unfälle zu vermeiden. Ab dem 1. November 2014 ist übrigens die Ausstattung aller Neufahrzeuge mit ESP vorgeschrieben.
