The Attention Powered Car, developed by
the RAC, is into leg 3 of its road trip around WA visiting towns
including Donnybrook, Nannup and Pemberton, heading to Albany and then
finishing in the Wheatbelt town of Narrogin. In this
episode we put two drivers behind the wheel that drive for a living. We
wanted to see if their professional experience influenced their
attention levels. How will our Ambo and Australia's best truck driver
perform? First up was Mike. As a St John's Ambulance
Volunteer, he needs to be calm and confident driving under pressure and
at high speed. And it showed. So too with our second driver, Murray,
who's TNT Australia's best truck driver. Both came out determined and
focused to prove they had the edge. To some degree they did. Incidences
of inattention were fewer and further between, but they were still
there. Encouragingly, both drivers were much better at refocusing when
they did lose attention. Check out this webisode to see
just how they performed, as well as what insights we are finding about
driver inattention as we take the Attention Powered Car through
southern WA.
Too many children in India are unable to realize their potential due to poverty and malnutrition. Slovenian company, DOO Petsdialog, in cooperation with the organizing committee of the ministry of tourism of Slovenia announced the international contest, Lord of the castle, with prize of 100 000 euros. The winner of the competition will also become the caretaker of the ancient castle on the lake Bled for one day. To win this prize you need to meet only two criteria: you should be at least 18 years old (or have the written consent from your parents) and have a dog. The competition is going its pace but it is not too late to apply for the job of your dreams. Some participants became leaders in voting in just 3 – 4 days and left behind those who had registered much earlier.

In total over 6,300 delegates from nearly 3,000 companies in the global duty free & travel retail industry attended the annual trade show which took place in the Palais des Festivals, Cannes from Sunday 20th to Friday 25th October. This visitor figure represents a +4% increase on the previous year and of the total 34% were key duty free & travel retail operators and landlords, up 8% on 2012.

Benzinmotoren mit Direkteinspritzung sind gefährlicher für Umwelt und Gesundheit als bislang angenommen. Das beweisen die Ergebnisse eines neuen Tests, den die Deutsche Umwelthilfe e.V. (DUH) bei der Abgasprüfstelle der Fachhochschule Bern (AFHB) in Auftrag gegeben hat. Die erstmals auch unter realen Fahrbedingungen gewonnenen Daten machen deutlich, dass der Ausstoß von Nanopartikeln und anderen Schadstoffen, im Vergleich zu den Ergebnissen auf dem Rollenprüfstand, auf der Straße massiv ansteigt. Deutlich höhere Emissionen gibt es jedoch auch im Labor, sobald die Testbedingungen einem realistischeren Fahrverhalten angepasst werden. Aus diesem Grund fordert die DUH eine rasche und umfassende Markteinführung entsprechender Abgasreinigungstechnologie, wie sie bei Dieselmotoren seit langer Zeit im Einsatz ist. Die Abgasprüfstelle der Fachhochschule Bern hatte die Emissionen eines Hyundai 30 GDI (1.6 L) und eines VW Golf VII TSI 1.4 L in verschiedenen Messzyklen sowie in jeweils fünf gleichen Straßenfahrten pro Fahrzeug ermittelt. Zur Messung von Nanopartikeln verwendete die AFHB ein „on board“-Gerät (NanoMet 3). Anschließend vermaß die Abgasprüfstelle beide Autos auf dem Prüfstand nach dem „Neuen Europäischen Fahrzyklus“ (NEFZ) und dem sogenannten Autobahnzyklus, der im Vergleich zum NEFZ einen realitätsnäheren Fahrbetrieb simuliert. Den Autobahnzyklus führte sie beim Golf einmal ohne und einmal mit eingebautem Partikelfilter durch. Während der VW Golf im NEFZ-Zyklus sowohl die ab 2014 als auch ab 2017 geltenden Grenzwerte für Partikelanzahl einhielt, blieb der Hyundai nur unter den schwächeren Grenzwerten für 2014. Auf der Straße zeigte sich dagegen ein gänzlich anderes Bild: Die Emissionen des Golf stiegen stark an und waren höher als die des Hyundai. Der im Golf für einen zweiten Durchlauf eingebaute Partikelfilter verringerte den Ausstoß fast vollständig.

Der ADAC hat insgesamt 150 Waschstraßen und sogenannte Portalanlagen bundesweit getestet. Resultat: Waschstraßen waschen besser als sogenannte Portalanlagen. Die beste Waschstraße heißt „Soft Wash Park“ und ist in Magdeburg. Diese Anlage schneidet mit der Gesamtnote „sehr gut“ (1,5) ab. Im Durchschnitt bekommen die Waschstraßen die Note „gut“. Die Portalanlagen - ein „Tor“ mit Waschelementen fährt bei dieser Art der Säuberung über das stehende Fahrzeug und zurück - kommen nur auf einen Notenschnitt von 3,6, sind also nur „ausreichend“. Weder eine Portalwaschanlage (66 wurden getestet), noch eine der 84 geprüften Waschstraßen fällt im Test durch. Allerdings ist auch keine Portalanlage dabei, die ein „gut“ oder „sehr gut“ schafft. Die wichtigste Testkategorie ist die „Waschleistung“.
Lynn Napoli Marynowski and her younger brother Frank Napoli are as close as a big sister and little brother can be. They are an extension of their tight-knit family. From being raised together (along with a brother), to working together—Lynn has worked at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange for 25 years and Frank 17 years—and, to this day, still living nearby each other, their parents and brother in Chicago and surrounding suburbs, Lynn and Frank share a close sibling connection. So, when Lynn was struck with the diagnosis of Stage 3 breast cancer back in June 2012, that road—no matter how long—would also be theirs to travel together.
