Santa isn’t just sliding down the chimney this year! To bridge the gap between Easter and Christmas, 20 PEEPS® Santas hopped through New York City spreading cheer and sweetness. The journey of the Santas culminated with a choreographed dance to the tune of the “Bunny Hop” and the distribution of samples of candy-cane-inspired PEEPS® Candy Cane marshmallow treats. The hopping Santas began at Rockefeller Plaza and hopped about the city, stopping at Times Square, and outside Radio City Music Hall, finally gathering for a special event that had spectators jumping with joy. A new online survey shows just how difficult life insurance conversations can be. Parents would rather talk to their children about drugs/alcohol, religion and politics before life insurance, which is a topic only slightly more comfortable than sex/puberty. The survey also shows parents are the primary source for initial conversations about life insurance. This topic avoidance might be one reason that 22 percent of Americans feel they are not at all knowledgeable about life insurance. The State Farm survey, conducted by Harris Interactive among over 2,000 U.S. adults also revealed a gap in Americans’ knowledge of life insurance and general misconceptions about the benefits life insurance provides to those who are insured. What impact would an ice sheet have on a Swedish final repository for spent nuclear fuel? And how does a final repository affect the surroundings if the ground is constantly frozen? The answers to these questions can be found in Greenland. In Kangerlussuaq, in western Greenland, Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management Company, SKB, is participating in a major international research project that investigates how glacial meltwater flows through and under the ice sheet and forms groundwater that, in turn, would be able to affect the safety of the repository. The project is called the Greenland Analogue Project, GAP for short. To view Multimedia News Release, go to http://www.multivu.com/mnr/58701-swedish-nuclear-fuel-waste-management-SKB

The Fluke VT02 Visual Infrared Thermometer, a troubleshooting camera with an infrared heat map, fills the gap for when a single-spot temperature reading isn’t enough and a high-resolution thermal image is more than users need. One tool combines the visual insight of a thermal imager, the visual images of a digital camera, and the point-and-shoot convenience of an IR (infrared) thermometer.

No other natural catastrophe impacts as many people as flooding, with an estimated 500 million people affected every year. Insured flood losses are also increasing significantly; 1970's annual claims were between USD 1–2 billion, whereas insured flood losses amounted to USD 15 billion in 2011. Recent flood events in Thailand, Australia and the Philippines have shown that floods are now rivalling earthquakes and hurricanes in terms of economic losses. However, awareness of flood risks and their impact is still relatively low. Swiss Re's publication Flood – an underestimated risk aims to close this knowledge gap. A study conducted by researchers from the University of L’Aquila in Italy and Mars, Incorporated provides compelling new evidence that the regular consumption of dietary cocoa flavanols may improve cognitive function in elderly subjects with early memory decline. Just published online in the journal Hypertension, this current study significantly advances understanding of the benefits of flavanols by specifically exploring the impact of regular cocoa flavanol consumption on cognitive function in a population with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI). Previous research has suggested that the benefits of cocoa flavanols could extend to the brain. However, these studies were either only short-term or did not demonstrate a consistent cognitive benefit. This unique study addresses this gap and provides important insights into the possibility of slowing or even reversing cognitive declines associated with aging through consumption of these natural compounds.
