Researchers presenting at ASTRO 2015, the premier radiation oncology scientific event in the world, unveiled new data this week that could fundamentally change the way that early stage breast cancer is treated. Results from a landmark prospective, randomized, multicenter phase III study conducted in Europe demonstrated that APBI brachytherapy leads to equivalent overall survival and local cancer control rates as compared to WBI after breast conserving surgery for selected patients with early stage breast cancers. These data were presented during the ASTRO official press conference and published in The Lancet, a leading high-impact global peer-reviewed medical journal. “We have been confidently offering APBI brachytherapy to selected women for years based on numerous phase II, single site and large registry studies that have confirmed the clinical utility of site-specific radiation delivered in a condensed timeframe,” said Frank A. Vicini, M.D., radiation oncologist, 21st Century Oncology, Royal Oak, Mich. and contributing author to the 2009 and 2013 ASTRO and ABS APBI guidelines. “The results from this landmark, multicenter, prospective randomized clinical study are the first to offer the critical level one evidence necessary to drive the fundamental changes in breast conserving cancer treatment that patients and healthcare professionals have been demanding for years.” To view the multimedia release go to: http://www.multivu.com/players/uk/7661231-new-apbi-brachytherapy-data-at-astro-2015/

Adlens, the global leader in adjustable focus eyewear, has launched its ground-breaking adjustable prescription eyewear ‘AdlensFocuss™’, the greatest advancement in optics in more than 50 years. Vision inevitably changes with age and people often need different strength glasses to see at near, intermediate and far distances. Progressive lenses are an option but they have a restricted usable lens area. A GFK Roper Study has shown one-third of wearers say they have trouble adjusting to them with seven to eight percent of wearers saying they cannot adjust to them at all. AdlensFocuss provides the benefits of a single vision lens – full frame viewing area – with the best features of a progressive lens – the ability to see at different distances. They are prescription glasses with proprietary technology; a unique flexible membrane that allows the power to be adjusted by simply turning small dials on the inside of the frames. AdlensFocuss lenses offer at least four times more viewing area than traditional progressive lenses and come encased in a fashion-forward frame from award-winning designer Blake Kuwahara. In a recent article on yahoo.com front page, it talked about a study that indicated using nutritional supplement could be dangerous to your health. When reading these types of studies, I always like to see who puts out the study and who sponsored it. The medical industry always sponsors studies that point to a detrimental effect, when using nutritional supplements. It seems to me that the medical industry is quite happy to keep you sick so that you can provide them with a continual doctor and hospital visits and purchase drugs. Hi, Rudy, Nutritionist, here again, to give you some good information on supplements and their use.

If diagnosed early enough 90% of melanoma cases can be treated effectively. An exclusive study carried out by Ipsos for La Roche-Posay in 23 countries across all continents looks into the different attitudes to the sun and general knowledge of the risks associated with exposure. A massive 88% of those questioned are aware of the risks of developing skin cancer when exposed without protection to the sun. However, just 1 in 2 of those questioned have ever consulted a dermatologist for a mole screening and 1 in 4 of them have never even checked their own moles on their body. Nintex, the recognized global leader in workflow and content automation (WCA), today released a new study revealing the top five most broken processes in American workplaces and how they contribute to employee satisfaction and performance. The study, called the “Definitive Guide to America’s Most Broken Processes,” found that a third of employees at U.S. companies (with more than 1,000 employees) are currently looking for new jobs, with the vast majority (86 percent) citing their company’s broken processes as a driving factor behind this decision. One commonality found in the research is that the top five issues are unspecialized, repetitive tasks that fall in the long tail of business processes, which must be automated to drive efficiency, efficacy and employee satisfaction.
