As the number of people living with Alzheimer’s disease soars, so does the number of family caregivers. Over 15 million people are taking care of loved ones with dementia in the home, according to the Alzheimer’s Association. Sixty percent say the emotional stress is high and more than a third report depression symptoms. To help, Brookdale is offering a free webinar for family caregivers during November, National Alzheimer’s Awareness Month. An estimated 15 million babies around the world are born premature each year and more than one million of them do not survive their early birth. Although the United States has seen sustained improvement in its preterm birth rate, it has one of the highest rates of preterm birth of any industrialized country.

Three-time U.S. Olympian Deena Kastor, 41, raced to a first place finish at the 11th Annual More Magazine/Fitness Magazine Women’s Half-Marathon in New York City’s Central Park on Sunday, April 13, 2014. Kastor shattered the previous course record time of 1:13:25.051 set in 2013, running a blazing 1:11:38, setting setting not only a new event record, but also a new U.S. Masters record. Local runners Tsehay Geisto of New York, NY, took second place in 1:15:07, while Aregash Gubae placed third in 1:18:35.

Thirty-six injured veterans with Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) made it to the Flight 93 National Memorial on day six of their cross-country journey to raise awareness for veteran issues. Soldier Ride Across America commemorates the 15-year anniversary of Long Island native and veteran supporter Chris Carney’s historic coast-to-coast cycling venture in support of wounded warriors, which spurred the creation of WWP’s Soldier Ride® program.
“I’m honored to be able to represent my veteran brothers and sisters on this historic ride,” said Shonda Gloude-Jones, U.S. Army veteran and Soldier Ride Across America cyclist. “Being able to visit the 9/11 memorials in New York City; the Pentagon; and Somerset County, Pennsylvania, has taken a larger emotional toll on me and the other warriors than any of the physical aspects of this journey.”
