Carrier has donated more than 500 systems to Habitat and they will be installed in homes throughout the country to provide cooling when it’s hot and heating when it’s cold. Carrier is a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX). Carrier has teamed up with pro football legend and longtime Habitat supporter, Warrick Dunn, in Atlanta to celebrate the donation. For 20 years, Dunn’s Home for the Holidays program has provided single mothers working toward their first home purchase with financial assistance. He began the program in honor of his late mother, a Louisiana police officer killed in the line of duty. Every 33 seconds a child under 13 is involved in a car crash in the United States, according to 2014 data from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Safety seats, if used correctly, can dramatically reduce the risk of fatality or injury. But 59 percent of car seats are misused in a way that could reduce their effectiveness, and over one-third of children killed in car crashes were completely unrestrained at the time of the crash. Today, NHTSA and the Ad Council unveiled a new series of public service advertisements (PSAs) to educate parents and caregivers about the importance of selecting the right seat for their child’s age and size, and to remind them that car seats, booster seats and seat belts offer the best protection for children in crashes and help save lives. “Life can change in an instant. We want parents and caregivers to prepare for the unexpected, rather than face their worst nightmare,” said Dr. Mark Rosekind, NHTSA administrator. “Buckling up a child correctly and in the right seat is the best protection any parent can do to see their child walk away unharmed from a car crash.” To view the multimedia release go to: http://www.multivu.com/players/English/7774451-ad-council-find-the-right-seat/

Spring is around the corner, and it won’t be long before it’s prom and graduation seasons for many high schoolers. Rites of passage for many, these are times for teens to celebrate, but can also be times of poor decision-making, especially when vehicles are involved. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that 2,524 teen drivers and passengers were killed and 177,000 were injured in 2013. Twenty-seven percent of these fatalities occurred between April and June, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). “The statistics are staggering, especially when you consider that most of these accidents and fatalities are preventable,” said Randy Petro, Mercury Insurance’s chief claims officer. “We don’t want any families to suffer through the loss of a child, so Mercury is taking action with the launch of the ‘Mercury Insurance Drive Safe Challenge.’” The Mercury Insurance Drive Safe Challenge kicked off with a free defensive driving program, which included hands-on driving skills training and classroom material. An interactive website provides teens with detailed instruction, as well as gives parents the tools to shape responsible driving behavior. As part of National Teen Driver Safety Week, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Ad Council announced today their first national public service campaign designed to prevent underage drinking and driving. Following the success of iconic campaigns including “Friends Don’t Let Friends Drive Drunk” and “Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving,” the new public service ads (PSAs) were unveiled this morning by Mark Rosekind, Administrator for the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), at the National Organizations for Youth Safety (NOYS) Teen Safe Driving Summit in Washington, DC. “One teenage death from drinking and driving is too many,” said NHTSA Administrator Mark Rosekind. “Our goal with this campaign is to raise awareness among teenagers that drinking and driving is one of the worst mistakes they can ever make, with deadly consequences that can’t be undone.” Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among teens in America, and almost half of teens killed in crashes are the drivers themselves. Despite a minimum legal drinking age of 21 in all 50 states, almost one-quarter of young drivers involved in fatal traffic crashes had alcohol in their systems according to data from NHTSA. Toro de la Vega, celebrated in Tordesillas in Valladolid on the second Tuesday of September in honor of the patron saint of the town Virgen de la Peña Villa, is one of most ancient bullfight rituals in Spain, originated in the Middle Ages. At 11am of that day a bull is released and chased by hundreds of humans down a street (next to the main square of town) to a bridge leading to an open field. Once the bull crosses the bridge hundreds of humans armed with a 30cm blade lances, chase him on horses or on foot, and when they get close enough they throw their lances at the helpless bull. The bull tries desperately to get away from this agonizing torture, but he is repeatedly stabbed and battered until his flesh is torn and he heavily bleeds so he can no longer escape. Once the bull collapses, he is stabbed with a dagger behind his head to be killed. Often he is stabbed a number of times until he finally dies.

Elephants are widely used as tourists’ attraction in Asia, mostly as means of transport, exotic scenery for the trip’s pictures and tricks and dancing street shows. The Thai festival Surin Elephant Round-up offers all of the above and much more. It is held on the third weekend of November in a northeastern province of Thailand called Surin.. Over 300 elephants are forced into dozens of shows including elephant races, strength displays like log-pulling, pick-up small objects such as matchboxes with their trunks for the dazzled crowd, elephant dances, a tug-of-war against dozens of humans, re-enactments of old hunting and war scenes and of course the soccer game loved so much by the tourists who don’t see or think about the long period of practice hated so much by the elephants. The Surin people were professional elephants exploiters, abducting baby elephants in the wild after killing their mothers and anyone else from the family who tried to defend the helpless babies. Then they domesticated them which is the washed term for isolation, constant beating and generally crushed them so they could be used for agriculture work or in war. These functions’ need decreased in time however the mahouts (elephant tamers), who still wanted to make a living using their violent skills, started the elephant entertainment business in Thailand. The elephants are cursed with humans’ ingenuity bless. The practices are the same, baby elephants are still endured the cruel, spirit-breaking process called Phajaan in Thai or "the crush" in English, in which they are imprisoned for several days, in a body size cage so they can’t turn around or lie down, and are constantly beaten with bats, poked with nail-studded sticks, and gouged with bull hooks until they are totally broken. Many babies die from their injuries, stress, starvation or from a repetitive stress syndrome caused by seeing their family killed in front of their eyes. The poor survivors are smuggled across Thailand to be sold as the saddest entertainers in the world. Tupac died when he was only 25 years old. He was well on his way to becoming one of the great leaders and icons of the next generation. I hope this song brings you back to when the whole east coast was fueding with the west coast and how crazy the game got. Tragically, that era will always be remembered by the murder of 2Pac and Biggie and not just the amazing music. This song is a blatant borrowing of a very early Bob Dylan song called Davey Moore. I added some words and switched some around in order to speak to the mysterious murder of one of Hip-Hop's greatest: Tupac Shakur. It would have been great to see what young Tupac became when he grew older. May his memory be a blessing.

As Child Passenger Safety Week wraps up, the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is launching a new Car Seat Finder Tool, adding the ability to look up car seat recalls on its mobile app, and reminding parents and caregivers to register their child's car seat through its new campaign – “Don't Delay. Register Your Car Seat Today.” Every 34 seconds, a child under the age of 13 is involved in a crash and more than a third of children killed in crashes were not in car seats or wearing seat belts. NHTSA's new Car Seat Finder Tool is aimed at helping parents select the right car seat or booster seat for their child, while the campaign reminds everyone of the importance of registering car seats to receive important safety recall notifications.
