Vandell’s debut record takes its namesake from that same title, one
that has been hard-earned by Vandell over years of intense work. The
African-native instrumentalist has released one of the more intriguing
and eclectic instrumental records thus far this year on the indie
scene. What makes the ‘One-Girl Symphony’ so interesting is Vandell’s
hand over a vast array of genres. The record style-hops with ridiculous
tact, shifting from classical influences to rock and roll and blues in
seamless movements. Speaking of which, there actually are movements.
Her debut album is broken into four autobiographical sections of three
songs each: Teenage Turbulence, The Formative Years, Return to
Innocence & Hope, and Empty Promises to Broken Hearts.
MINI TAKES THE STATES 2016 (MTTS), the eagerly anticipated two-week cross-country rally for MINI owners and enthusiasts, kicked off this weekend in Atlanta, GA. The bi-annual trek will travel track-to-track through America's open roads, stopping in 14 cities over 15 days with thousands of MINIs. Along the way, the group will rally to #DefyHunger with charity partner Feeding America.

Following years of trying to expand their family, Lisa and James Park of Raleigh, NC were named the winning family in Ferring Pharmaceuticals’ 2014 Heart to Heart Video Contest. This marks the tenth year Ferring has provided educational grants through patient contests, giving parents who have struggled with infertility the chance to win thousands of dollars for their child’s education by sharing their story.
Lisa and James’ rollercoaster journey to parenthood included multiple rounds of in vitro fertilization (IVF), intrauterine insemination (IUI) and a frozen embryo transfer. They hope that by sharing their story and video, they can help raise awareness about infertility and provide hope for others facing similar struggles. Every three minutes someone in the U.S. is diagnosed with a blood cancer. No one knows this better than “Nashville” star Charles Esten and his wife Patty. Esten’s 15-year-old daughter, Addie, was diagnosed with leukemia at age 2 ½. Naturally, their world was turned upside down. But, they quickly learned that there was hope, based on research to advance new treatments and cures for leukemia, much of it funded by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS).

Over 255,000 people in the United States will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer this year, and over 41,000 will die, with metastatic breast cancer being the leading cause of those fatalities. Despite these staggering statistics, there are signs of hope. Treatments for metastatic breast cancer are improving, and they continue to help people with the disease live longer and healthier lives.

The Ad Council and the Dollar General Literacy Foundation today launched new public service ads (PSAs) to support their national Finish Your Diploma campaign to provide adults with the information and encouragement needed to earn a high school equivalency diploma. The new PSAs celebrate adult learners in America and reinforce the idea that no one does it alone.
“As adults are considering finishing their diploma, often the greatest challenge is simply knowing where to go for support and having the courage to take the first step towards completing their diploma,” said Denine Torr of the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. “By coupling real stories with information about free local adult education classes and resources, we hope the new commercials will inspire and empower individuals to pursue their dreams through education.”
