Emmy Award-nominated actor and producer John Stamos (FULLER HOUSE, SCREAM QUEENS) is set to host the 37th annual edition of PBS’ A CAPITOL FOURTH, broadcast live from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol. The all-star musical and fireworks extravaganza will kick off the country’s 241st birthday with performances by: iconic multi-platinum selling music legends The Beach Boys, with special guests John Stamos (drums) and Sugar Ray’s Mark McGrath (vocals); soul men Dan Aykroyd and Jim Belushi of The Blues Brothers; legendary Motown stars The Four Tops; THE VOICE Season 12 winner Chris Blue; acclaimed country music singer and songwriter Kellie Pickler; Grammy-nominated gospel legend Yolanda Adams; and Broadway star and two-time Tony Award-nominee Laura Osnes (BANDSTAND); with the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of top pops conductor Jack Everly. Cigna (NYSE: CI) today unveiled its new TV Doctors of America campaign to encourage people to improve their health by going for their annual check-up, knowing their biometric numbers for blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and body mass index (BMI), and taking control of their health. Supporting Cigna’s effort are actors Patrick Dempsey, Donald Faison, Neil Patrick Harris and Kate Walsh. All four actors starred as doctors on TV and are striking doctor poses, donning scrubs and using their celebrity influence to shine a spotlight on preventive care and the importance of going to a real doctor for an annual check-up that can help save lives.

Four youths who have captivated audiences across the Arab world will compete to be named the regions top innovator in the live finale of Stars of Science, Qatar Foundation’s “edutainment reality” TV program on MBC4. The ranking of finalists Thieab Al Dossary of Bahrain, Sultan AlSubhi of Oman, Rania Bou Jaoudeh of Lebanon and Mohammed Al Housani of Qatar will be determined by a public vote and a jury deliberation in the live finale, which will air from the Stars of Science studios in Doha on MBC4 on Saturday, 15 November 2014 at 8:00pm KSA/ 5:00pm GMT.

Las Vegas Sands Corp. (NYSE: LVS), and social enterprise Clean the World announced today a first-of-its-kind service in Las Vegas to help homeless people. The Sands Cares Fresh Start Mobile Showers Powered by Clean the World is a traveling hygiene unit that visits locations serving the homeless to provide showers, hygiene supplies and other resources.
LVS contributed more than $200,000 to Sands Cares Fresh Start Mobile Showers, which was unveiled in Las Vegas on July 27, and will offer approximately 250 showers per week. To reach people in need, Clean the World and Las Vegas Sands have partnered with four Las Vegas organizations to offer the service through their homeless community outreach efforts, including WestCare, CARE Complex, Nevada Homeless Alliance and the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth. Sands Cares Fresh Start Mobile Showers will provide hygiene services at a partner organization one day each week, where clients can also receive access to a wide array of support, such as emergency shelter, food and clothing supplies, medical care and detoxification services.

As brain health becomes an ever greater concern for people of all ages, the nation’s largest senior living provider is now guiding its residents on developing and putting into practice personalized brain health plans. Brookdale devised the new resident program with the help of a neuropsychologist specializing in brain health. The company is putting it into place at its independent and assisted living communities across the country.
Through the new initiative, Brookdale’s residents will be offered a four-session course that explains key factors in brain health through classroom learning and hands-on activities. Each participant will be guided on creating an individual brain health plan to use on a daily basis. The course was developed with the assistance of Dr. Paul Nussbaum, who is Board Certified in clinical and geropsychology with a specialty in neuropsychology. An adjunct professor of neurological surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, he is the author of “Save Your Brain.”
