Forbes magazine recognizes Children International, a U.S.-based humanitarian organization, as a top charity.
In a year when many large national charities are reporting declines in donations, Children International’s income was up over 5% in 2010. The organization attributes the increase to the generosity of American consumers during a difficult economy and their commitment to supporting children living in poverty.

DJ $crilla and Lauren Lanzaretta, the Ohio duo who collaborated on Color of Love, have partnered with Berea Children’s Home and Family Services in Cleveland to give away their album in exchange for charitable donations.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood today announced the launch of new public service announcements (PSAs) to raise awareness about the importance of choosing the right child safety seat and making sure it is installed properly. The ads, released in partnership with the Ad Council, promote car seat safety among parents of children up to age 12. Data from the Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show an estimated 8,959 lives were saved by child restraint systems from 1975 to 2008.

Golfers have a great excuse to tee it up on Labor Day weekend (Aug. 31 – Sept. 3) as thousands of golf facilities will host Patriot Golf Day® events. They will collect donations for Folds of Honor Foundation, a non-profit organization providing educational scholarships to families of service men and women disabled or killed in service to their country. Poor children in the Dominican Republic will now have a chance at a better life through Children International, a U.S.-based humanitarian organization, thanks to businessman Larry Phelan.
The Philadelphia attorney funded the newly inaugurated signature community center that will serve 5,000 children in the slum of La Caleta near Santo Domingo. The center will provide children access to medical and dental care, education support, and nutritional programs.
Mr. Phelan was inspired to work with Children International by his friend Dan Phelan, who funded another center in the Dominican Republic. Much like Dan’s facility, the Larry T. Phelan Community Center is state-of-the-art, with a medical clinic, dental clinic, pharmacy, library, playground, computer lab and a sports complex.
