The operating room (OR) needs better supply chain management systems and analytics to help reduce costs and support patient safety, according to a new Cardinal Health survey of surgical staff and hospital supply chain decision-makers.
Nearly half (40 percent) of respondents revealed they’ve actually canceled a case, and more than two-thirds (69 percent) have delayed a case because of missing supplies. Furthermore, 27 percent have seen or heard of an expired product being used on a patient, and 23 percent have seen or heard of a patient harmed due to a lack of supplies.

Children who have disabilities will be able to express their unique experiences like never before thanks to a first-of-its-kind app developed by Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare in St. Paul, Minnesota.
The app, an ability-themed emoji keyboard called Emojability, will allow families, patients, caregivers and advocates in the special needs community to communicate, support one another and feel empowered to celebrate the goals and successes they’ve achieved. From adaptive equipment and therapy emojis to words of encouragement, Emojability brings to life symbols and phrases that don’t exist on other emoji keyboards. The free app is now available for download on smartphones.

2009'da TÜBİTAK Bilim ve Teknik Dergisi'ndeki Darwin skandalından (http://www.hurriyet.com.tr/gundem/111...) sonra başlayan evrim tartışmaları ekranlara da yansımıştı. Celal Şengör ise jeoloji profesörü olmasına rağmen ilahiyat öğrencilerinin bilim ve evrim karşıtı (daha doğrusu ezberleyip geldikleri) sorularına ustalıkla cevap vermişti.
Programın başlarında Şengör'ün insanın evrimini anlatma çabalarına rağmen, soru-cevap bölümüne gelindiğinde eğitim sisteminin kurbanı bir neslin Dunning-Kruger sendromundan nasıl nasiplendiğine tanık olduk. Bu kısımdaki genç de konuyla ilgili en ufak bir bilgisi olmamasına rağmen bir bilim insanına kafa tutmak için ezber bellediği soruları kendinden çok emin bir şekilde soruyor ve sorularına tek tek cevap geldikçe daha da hırslanıyor. Konuyu öğrenmek ve anlamak için sormadığı çok açık değil mi? O salonda kulaklarını gerçeklere kapatmış kitlenin toplumun çoğunluğunu oluşturması da bir o kadar acı değil mi?
