In honor of Cinco de Mayo, the world’s greatest speed eaters recently battled in the Alamo City to claim victory in the La Costeña Feel the Heat Jalapeño Eating Championship Challenge. After ten fiery minutes, including a double overtime one-on-one challenge with the reigning champion, Pat “Deep Dish” Bertoletti emerged victorious by consuming 275 whole pickled jalapeños. The fourth annual challenge was a highly anticipated rematch between the reigning champ – five-foot-tall, 105-pound Sonya “The Black Widow” Thomas – and Bertoletti, the mohawked, two-time title winner from Chicago. With a vengeance not seen since the Battle of the Alamo, Bertoletti regained the coveted title from Thomas. LG Mobile Phones announced today that 13 year-old, Brianna Hendrickson from Brooklyn, NY is the winner of the fourth annual LG U.S. National Texting Championship. LG originated the first-ever nationwide texting competition in 2007 and returned this year with additional prizes and challenges. After out-texting the best in the U.S. with her ultimate speed and dexterity, Brianna took home $50,000 and will now compete in the LG Text For Good Challenge, where she will have the chance to double her prize money and select a charity to which LG will make a $50,000 donation.

CEO confidence was up slightly in the third quarter, noting a slowing economic growth pace, but no evidence of a double dip recession, according to the Vistage CEO Confidence Index 3rd quarter results. Despite widespread recognition of the recent economic slowdown, CEOs were more confident in their firm’s ability to increase their revenues and profits in the year ahead. Yet, virtually every CEO (92%) expects rising employee health care costs, and 57% of all CEOs expect those cost increases to be more than 10%. Two-thirds of all CEOs said that without the extension of the Bush tax cuts their businesses would be harmed, and nearly half (46%) reported continued unfavorable credit market conditions. In response to a question about the upcoming elections, 62% of CEOs believe the Republicans will control the U.S. House of Representatives in January 2011.
