Automakers from around the globe are gearing up for the grand opening of the 2017 Chicago Auto Show, which opens to the public on 10am. Saturday, Feb. 11, at McCormick Place.
Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White and Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle are expected to be on hand Saturday, Feb. 11 for the ribbon cutting ceremony, which will officially open the 2017 Chicago Auto Show. The campaign is raising awareness of Dupuytren’s Contracture, a progressive, potentially disfiguring hand condition affecting a layer of tissue underneath the palms that can cause one or more fingers to move into a bent position so they cannot be straightened.
Dupuytren’s Contracture, sometimes referred to as “Viking Disease,” can make everyday tasks difficult, such as grabbing an object at home, or in Tim Herron’s case, a nine iron from his golf bag. Many people live with the disease without being diagnosed because they mistakenly assume they have arthritis or another hand condition. And because Dupuytren’s Contracture may progress slowly, people may not pay attention to it until they can no longer straighten their fingers, complicating everyday activities.

Barefoot Wine & Bubbly has proclaimed July 9th World Beach Rescue Day (WBRD) in honor of the 10th year of the Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project, an initiative that began in 2007 in partnership with the Surfrider Foundation, a non-profit grassroots organization dedicated to protecting our ocean, waves and beaches. Since its start 10 years ago, the beach-cleaning effort has expanded to more than 14 countries around the world with 14,000 participating volunteers who have collected more than 20 tons of trash from our beaches.
On July 9, volunteers in 11 countries around world will lend a hand – and a foot! – at simultaneous beach clean up events in an effort to improve the state of their local shores, rivers, and lakes by removing pollution before it enters our waterways. Volunteers will be provided with reusable bags and gloves and then directed to areas of the beaches most in need of tender loving care. Afterward, as is tradition, volunteers will be invited to an appreciation celebration that includes delicious food, exciting entertainment, and complimentary Barefoot Wine & Bubbly.
