Each day, 600,000 New Yorkers hop in the back of a taxi – the iconic yellow cab that is a symbol of New York City around the world. Starting today, the first full vehicle prototype of the Taxi of Tomorrow can be seen by drivers, passengers and owners. The 2014 Nissan NV200 taxi, New York’s Taxi of Tomorrow, will make its global debut tonight at a special event in SoHo with Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Nissan President and CEO Carlos Ghosn.
Following the event, the Taxi of Tomorrow is headed to the 2012 New York International Auto Show, where it will be on display for New Yorkers and visitors from around the world. The auto show at the Jacob Javits Center is open to the public April 6-15, 2012.

I was there during the Press Only days and attending the unveiling new Compass, the Jeep Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel (diesel) and the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT. After the press conference I was talking with people that work for Jeep. One of the Jeep Executives said that because they drive a Jeep and work at Jeep weather is not an excuse to not come into work. LOL. awesome. Its a Jeep. Sogenannte Concept Cars sind auf allen Automessen der Hingucker. Sie sollen zeigen, was die Autobauer für die Mobilität der Zukunft entwickeln. Oft wird aus dem Blick in die Zukunft aber auch nichts. Die Studien wären für eine Serienproduktion dann doch zu teuer gewesen, oder zu praxisfern, oder es wäre einfach nicht mehr die Akzeptanz bei den Käufern vorhanden. Dann wandern die Konzepte nach ihrem glorreichen Messeauftritten still und leise ins Museum oder die Schrottpresse. VW hat mit einem ambitionierten Projekt bewiesen, dass es auch anders geht. Das 1-Liter-Auto erschien zu Beginn vielen Skeptikern noch als reine Utopie. Als VW in Doha den Prototyp des XL1 durch die Straßen fahren ließ, war aber klar, dass es sich nicht nur ein imageträchtiges Marketingprojekt handelt. Spätestens als in Genf die Kleinserie des XL1 ins Scheinwerferlicht rollte, mussten Zweifler erkennen, dass VW es ernst meint.
