Fancy hats, mint juleps and thoroughbred horses – the three main ingredients to one of the premier sporting events and celebrations in the country. As someone who always brings the fun wherever he goes, Captain Morgan is looking to shake up the festivities by making an unprecedented offer to enter a mule – yes, you read that right – in the elite horse race of the season.
Captain Morgan’s newest friend, the Morgan Mule – who is 1 part horse, 1 part donkey and 2 parts Captain – has always wanted to prove his racing chops. The exclusive competition is typically limited to 20, three-year-old thoroughbred horses who qualify based on a tiered point system from a series of races. But as an advocate of fun for all, Captain Morgan is promising that if the Morgan Mule is allowed to compete, he will donate $1 million to charity.

Toro de la Vega, celebrated in Tordesillas in Valladolid on the second Tuesday of September in honor of the patron saint of the town Virgen de la Peña Villa, is one of most ancient bullfight rituals in Spain, originated in the Middle Ages.
At 11am of that day a bull is released and chased by hundreds of humans down a street (next to the main square of town) to a bridge leading to an open field. Once the bull crosses the bridge hundreds of humans armed with a 30cm blade lances, chase him on horses or on foot, and when they get close enough they throw their lances at the helpless bull.
The bull tries desperately to get away from this agonizing torture, but he is repeatedly stabbed and battered until his flesh is torn and he heavily bleeds so he can no longer escape.
Once the bull collapses, he is stabbed with a dagger behind his head to be killed. Often he is stabbed a number of times until he finally dies.
On the weekend of mid-January of each year, more than 300 Valencian communities celebrate the Feast of San Antonio which is considered as the patron saint of animals. Each community with its own tradition but always with some kind of fire rituals and of course with some kind of animal exploitation, usually bareback horse races and several horse subjugation shows.
But the most famous is held in the town Vilanova de Alcolea where they combine the fire ritual with the commemoration of the saint patron of the animals by forcing dozens of horses into bonfires.
How typical of humans, to invent an animals’ patron and then celebrate his day by abusing them.
Thousands of humans, locals and from all over the world, gather to watch dozens of humans, brutally wrestle to the ground hundreds of wild horses, who were earlier captured and convoyed to a ring, so they can cut their manes and tails’ hair and brand them or inject an identification chip under their skin (depends on the level of technology).
The practice is common in several villages around Galicia but the most famous and popular is annually held in Sabucedo in the first weekend of July, for three days.
In Sabucedo the ring (called Curros) is a centuries-old amphitheater made of stone and not wood, to spice things up, the horses fetching and ring admission is also festive, meaning a huge crowd awaits the already terrified wild horses who are even more prudish than domesticated horses. But the most "attractive" difference is that the horses’ grounding in Sabucedo is done barehanded. No instruments are allowed, the Aloitadores (the Subduers) can only use their hands and body, and they do with all their might. Kicking, punching, strangling and pulling tails and ears. Everything goes and the crueler the thriller.
The International Sahara Festival held in Douz in the end of December, is an annual festival celebrating the nomadic culture of the Sahara desert. The festival which began in 1910, is today one of the biggest and most important international festivals in the world, attracting around 100,000 humans a day from all over Tunisia and other Maghrebien countries as well as tourists from all over the world.
Throughout its 4 days, the festival showcases the Saharan way of life which is basically based on camel exploitation and indeed one of the festival’s main events is the Great Race which is an international camel marathon of 42 kilometers. Other abuse event are "regular" camel races, camel wrestling, acrobatic horse riding demonstrations and Saharan dogs race, which is Arabian hound dogs chasing hares across the dunes until they catch them for the crowd’s amusement.
