Altera Corporation (NASDAQ: ALTR) today announced it has achieved a significant milestone in transceiver technology by becoming the first company to successfully demonstrate 25-Gbps transceiver performance in programmable logic. Altera achieved this milestone in its 28-nm transceiver test chip, a prototyping platform that Altera is using to succeassfully deploy 28-Gbps transceivers on 28-nm FPGAs. Reaching the 25-Gbps milestone more than doubles the transceiver performance in currently available FPGA solutions, and rivals or exceeds the abilities of competitive ASSP offerings. The American Pain Foundation (APF), in partnership with professional baseball player LaTroy Hawkins, acknowledges those suffering from Postherpetic Neuralgia (PHN) today, as it recognizes the second annual PHN Awareness Day. PHN Awareness Day was created to raise awareness to the pain caused by shingles and PHN, also known as after-shingles pain. Shingles is caused by the reactivation of the same virus that causes chickenpox and can affect an individual who has had chickenpox at anytime without warning. More than 90 percent of adults in the United States have had chickenpox, placing them at risk for shingles. The EU Regulation on Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP) places new legal obligations on chemical companies operating in the EU market. By 1 December 2010, they are required to classify and label their hazardous substances according to the CLP rules.
Industry has to notify the classification and labelling of substances placed on the market to a central database, called the Classification & Labelling Inventory. The database is established and maintained by ECHA. The first deadline for notification is 3 January 2011. Key information from this Classification and Labelling Inventory will also be made publicly available on ECHA’s website. Confidential business information will not be disclosed to the public.

With the help of a compassionate fitness club owner and a personal trainer, Susan managed to lose 75 pounds over several months. The club owner, Kitty Williams of Anytime Fitness in Loveland, celebrated Susan’s success by featuring her “before and after” photos in a local newspaper ad.
Susan’s pride at being featured in the ad turned to horror, however, when Tonight Show host Jay Leno mocked Susan’s accomplishments during one of his weekly “Headlines” segments.
