Sixty percent of Americans self-reported they currently do not have a family emergency plan in case of a natural disaster or other emergency, according to a 2013 national survey conducted by the Ad Council. To encourage parents to engage their children (ages 7-12) in a conversation about preparing for emergencies, including natural and man-made disasters, the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Ad Council unveiled a new series of public service advertisements (PSAs) as part of their Ready Kids campaign. The PSAs are launching in advance of the tenth annual National Preparedness Month (NPM).

The German Federal Foreign Office (FFO), the Goethe-Institut, and the Federation of German Industry (BDI), announce the launch of WanderbUS, an immersive traveling exhibit bringing German culture to 48 states over five months. Launching March 5th in Washington, D.C., the WanderbUS will hit the road to visit high schools and universities in every state within the continental US. Staffed with a team of educational professionals, the tour will feature presentations, games and virtual reality tours of German landmarks including Hamburg, Nuernberg and Frankfurt. Nearly three in four American voters (74 percent) favor increasing federal funding for cancer research, according to the results of a new national survey conducted on behalf of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR). The survey results were released today in conjunction with the AACR’s fifth annual Cancer Progress Report. The report highlights how federally funded research can power progress against cancer and urges Congress and the administration to implement a strategy for providing annual budget increases of at least 7 percent for the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Cancer Institute (NCI), and U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in fiscal year 2016 and thereafter.
The national survey, which was conducted by Hart Research Associates and Public Opinion Strategies, shows that five out of every six voters recognize what the AACR Cancer Progress Report 2015 details: that progress is being made against cancer.

The Air National Guard (ANG) is proud to announce the return of the Air National Guard Mobile Experience. The hands-on, interactive tour returns to the road for a fifth year to immerse participants in an experience that simulates the real-life roles of Air Guard men and women and highlights the ANG’s dual role, supporting both federal and state missions.
While participating in the tour, attendees learn how they can serve their country and maintain a fulfilling civilian life, by serving one weekend a month and two weeks a year near their home. The Air National Guard Mobile Experience includes five separate touring vehicles each designed to educate the public about the ANG. The touring vehicles are traveling nationwide through November, visiting fairs, festivals, air shows, fitness and music events.

Intermedia today released its 2015 Insider Risk Report, which exposes the online security habits of more than 2,000 office workers in the U.S. and U.K.
Even as businesses and the federal government have made cybersecurity a high priority, Intermedia’s survey found that 93% of office workers engage in some form of unsafe online habits that could jeopardize their employer or their customers.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today that it is seeking applicants for its Youth Preparedness Council. FEMA’s Youth Preparedness Council was formed in 2012 to bring together teens from across the country who are interested and engaged in advocating for preparedness. Council members are selected based on their dedication to public service, efforts in making a difference in their communities, and potential to expand their impact as national advocates for preparedness. Students in 8th through 11th grade are eligible to apply.

The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a volunteer-powered charity dedicated to funding children’s cancer research, is recognizing National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month with a number of activities planned throughout September. As the leading non-governmental funder of childhood cancer research grants, St. Baldrick’s is asking people to get involved by helping to raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer research.
“One in five kids with cancer will die in the first five years of diagnosis, and those that do survive face a lifetime of serious health issues caused by the toxicity of their cure,” said Kathleen Ruddy, CEO of St. Baldrick’s. “The American public wants kids with cancer to be a national health priority, but our leaders are leaving these kids behind with the lack of federal research funding. We are calling upon everyone to speak up about the need for increased childhood cancer research funding as well as to stand up in support of kids with cancer during this important month.”
