Just 70 years ago the fate of the world hung by a thread. America was fighting a two-front war against Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan. Titanic battles, on a scale never seen before or since, blazed across two vast oceans and three huge continents. Our fear was great. Our anxiety real. Our victory was far from certain. If we won, we would preserve our freedom. Now the story of that struggle unfolds inside the new Campaigns of Courage: European and Pacific Theaters pavilion opening December 13, 2014 at The National WWII Museum in New Orleans. Assembled for the first time in one space is the epic story of America’s citizen soldiers on the battlefields. Visitors will discover how the war that changed the world was fought and won through the words and deeds of the participants themselves – those called the Greatest Generation. A new survey commissioned by Mucinex, the number one over-the-counter brand* in America, reveals that more than 158 million Americans (63 percent of the adult population) would try to hide being sick so they wouldn’t have FOMO (fear of missing out) on doing things they wanted to do. However, more than 206 million Americans (82 percent of those surveyed) would agree that when they see people out and about when they are sick, they wish those battling cold and flu symptoms stayed home instead. While this time of year is full of fun autumn activities and outings with family and friends, it’s also the beginning of cold and flu season, and the last thing people want to do is stay at home and battle a swarm of sick symptoms.

The public is generally satisfied with cancer research progress over the past 20 years. However, they believe it takes too long for new cancer medicines to reach patients and that their countries invest too little in fighting cancer. Most fear that the current economic crisis will slow cancer research progress. This is according to the PACE Cancer Perception Index: A Six-Nation, Public Opinion Survey of Cancer Knowledge and Attitudes, released today in advance of World Cancer Day, which is recognized on February 4, 2013. Most Americans appear hopeful and optimistic about aging according to a new, national study from Parker, one of America’s leading aging services organizations that this year celebrates its 110th anniversary. Key findings from Parker’s “Aging in America Survey”—which examines the nation’s changing attitudes and opinions around growing older in the U.S.—include: • A vast majority of Americans (71%) do not fear or worry about aging very much or at all. • More than half of those surveyed (62%) believe that 80 is not too old to serve in government, run a marathon, be CEO of a Fortune 500 company, teach a class, or practice yoga. • Those surveyed were evenly split (49% each) in describing the experience of growing older in America today with positive words (e.g., “hopeful,” “relevant,” “vibrant”) vs. negative words (e.g., “scary,” “depressing,” “lonely”). • Nearly two-thirds (59%) of Americans feel that not enough technology innovation focuses on the lifestyles of older people. • While 38% of Americans feel the most positive thing about getting older is gaining more experience and wisdom, only 1% believes it is acquiring greater wealth and material goods.
