Currently melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer and one of the most common cancers in women under 40 years old in the United States. The first line of defense in helping to reduce the risk of developing melanoma is by wearing broad spectrum UVA and UVB SPF protection. L’Oréal Paris, a leading global beauty brand, and Melanoma Research Alliance (MRA), the leading private funder of melanoma research, announced today the launch of It’s THAT Worth It To Me. This social media campaign encourages women to donate 15 social media seconds by sharing why SPF protection or using sunless tanner is worth it to protect their skin, their beauty and their life. For every social share, L’Oréal Paris will donate $1 to MRA to fund the L’Oréal Paris - MRA Team Science Award Research Grant, up to $250,000 in 2015.

The Fourth of July is an excellent time to take a moment to acknowledge all of the men and women who are bravely serving in the United States military at home and overseas. Major League Baseball’s San Diego Padres and Mercury Insurance are doing more than just saluting our troops’ service, as the two organizations partnered to host a “packing party” yesterday to assemble care packages for Marines and Sailors from local bases – Camp Pendleton and MCAS Miramar – currently deployed in Afghanistan. More than 50 Mercury employees and agents, local little leaguers and Padres pitcher Ian Kennedy and community representatives stuffed 1,000 backpacks in right field at Petco Park following the July 2 Padres-Reds game.

SMIRNOFF has announced a new extension of its “Equalizing Music” global campaign through a new partnership with Spotify that promotes equality for women musicians around the world.
According to Spotify data, none of the top 10 most-streamed tracks were performed by women artists or bands in 2017. To help make a difference in the music industry, the makers of SMIRNOFF have teamed up with Spotify to increase representation of women in music by allowing consumers to impact their own listening habits through an industry-first application programming interface (API), dubbed the Smirnoff Equalizer.

Researchers presenting at ASTRO 2015, the premier radiation oncology scientific event in the world, unveiled new data this week that could fundamentally change the way that early stage breast cancer is treated.
Results from a landmark prospective, randomized, multicenter phase III study conducted in Europe demonstrated that APBI brachytherapy leads to equivalent overall survival and local cancer control rates as compared to WBI after breast conserving surgery for selected patients with early stage breast cancers. These data were presented during the ASTRO official press conference and published in The Lancet, a leading high-impact global peer-reviewed medical journal.
“We have been confidently offering APBI brachytherapy to selected women for years based on numerous phase II, single site and large registry studies that have confirmed the clinical utility of site-specific radiation delivered in a condensed timeframe,” said Frank A. Vicini, M.D., radiation oncologist, 21st Century Oncology, Royal Oak, Mich. and contributing author to the 2009 and 2013 ASTRO and ABS APBI guidelines. “The results from this landmark, multicenter, prospective randomized clinical study are the first to offer the critical level one evidence necessary to drive the fundamental changes in breast conserving cancer treatment that patients and healthcare professionals have been demanding for years.”
