Rwanda is celebrating and believe me they
have a lot to celebrate after 20 years of peace! Exact numbers killed
are of course difficult to verify but it likely well over a million
people, which for a country as tiny as Rwanda is about 1 in 5. We do
know that at least 500,000 people were killed in a mere 100 days after
the assassination of Juvénal Habyarimana and Cyprien Ntaryamira on
April 6 through mid-July in 1994. It\\\'s also quite
difficult to guess the exact start date of the genocide because the
definition of genocide wasn\\\'t even recognized internationally until
1948. I would personally put the start of their troubles at 1933 when
the then ruling Belgians organized a census and mandated that everyone
be issued an identity card classifying them as either Tutsi, Hutu, or
Twa. This, then started the tensions that led to an eventual
genocide. Many people are familiar with Rwanda both because of it\\\'s
unusual name and the association with the famous fact based movie
\\\
Tatsuo Miyajima, one of Japan’s most influential artists over the past two decades, debuted his work “HOTO” (2008) in the United States for the first time this week for an indefinite engagement at The Shops at Crystals in Las Vegas. The piece previously has been on display only in Japan and China.
Inspired by Buddhist scripture, HOTO – meaning “treasure pagoda” – refers to a story about a monumental bejeweled tower that emerges from the ground, floats midair and covers half the world, symbolizing the importance of every human life. According to Buddhist teachings, life cannot be described without such an impossible story because life is nothing but a miracle.
It was this scripture and the devastating events of September 11, 2001 that inspired Miyajima to create HOTO, which represents his belief that every life is important as well as his hope for inter-connectedness across the globe creating peace and community.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® will celebrate its 14th annual FedEx/St. Jude Angels and Stars Gala, by welcoming back model and television personality, as well as co-founder, Daisy Fuentes, for an evening of fine dining and Latin music at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, at the Intercontinental Hotel in downtown Miami. The annual event raises funds to help ensure families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food – because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
Cuban-born American journalist and one of Time magazine’s “25 Most Influential Hispanics in America,” Cristina Saralegui, will be recognized for her commitment to giving back and educating the Hispanic community. “Being recognized by St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is a true honor. ATA Karate For Kids is a specialized program created exclusively for children. The Karate for Kids program includes two age groups. Pre-school karate for kids classes are for children ages 3-6 and the karate for kids classes for children ages 7 through 12. The foundation of the martial arts ATA curriculum is the ongoing ATA review and development of life-skills such as positive mental attitude, high goal-setting, perseverance, self-control and confidence.
Karate For Kids training is designed to be fun and fulfilling for each student. This is because Taekwondo is an individual activity rather than a team sport. Four-time PGA TOUR winner Tim Herron is teaming up with Endo Pharmaceuticals Inc., a subsidiary of Endo International plc (NASDAQ: ENDP), Damon Adamany, MD, of The CORE Institute and the Facts on Hand campaign to educate adults about one of the more common hand conditions. The campaign is raising awareness of Dupuytren’s Contracture, a progressive, potentially disfiguring hand condition affecting a layer of tissue underneath the palms that can cause one or more fingers to move into a bent position so they cannot be straightened.
Dupuytren’s Contracture, sometimes referred to as “Viking Disease,” can make everyday tasks difficult, such as grabbing an object at home, or in Tim Herron’s case, a nine iron from his golf bag. Many people live with the disease without being diagnosed because they mistakenly assume they have arthritis or another hand condition. And because Dupuytren’s Contracture may progress slowly, people may not pay attention to it until they can no longer straighten their fingers, complicating everyday activities.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has proposed sweeping regulations that would require states to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from the electricity sector by an average of 30 percent nationally. This costly plan is another step in the administration's policies designed to eliminate low cost and reliable electricity and replace it with more expensive and less reliable sources.
"The rule is a stunning attempt to remake the nation's entire electric grid at great cost to households and businesses across the US. Our manufacturing base will become less competitive because of higher electricity prices. The impact of this regulation will be felt by families as they will spend more to heat and cool their homes. Those on fixed incomes and seniors will be forced to pay a disproportionately higher share of their monthly budget on utilities," said Hal Quinn, president and CEO, National Mining Association."

Havana will host the XVIII edition of the Habanos Festival, from February 29 to March 4, and present the most important launches for 2016.
