The four entities unveiled this revolutionary achievement in 3-D printing at a ceremony in the Oak Ridge National Laboratory on Sept. 23.

A recent Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) survey found that nearly 60 percent of American adults have not practiced what to do in a disaster by participating in a disaster drill or preparedness exercise at work, school, or home in the past year. The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the addition of a new category and an increase in the purse value of the Hamdan bin Mohammed Award for Innovation in Project Management. The increase, commences from the second edition of the award, following the huge success and overwhelming global participation for the inaugural edition of the award.
HE Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) cum Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the HBM Award for Innovation in Project Management said, “The Award prizemoney would be increased by 29% equivalent to AED2.6 MILLION (US$710,000). An Academic category has been added comprising two awards: Research in Innovative Project Management Practices Award and Innovative Use of Project Management Practices (Award Category) to engage students, academics and researchers. Winners of the Award would be honoured during the 5th Dubai International Project Management Forum (DIPMF) scheduled in December 2018.

Extremely painful and destructive, gout is the most common form of inflammatory arthritis with elevated serum uric acid (sUA) a root cause of the disease. Even with the growing incidence of gout, recent research from the Gout & Uric Acid Education Society (GUAES) found that just 16 percent of Americans overall know the target sUA number for gout (6 mg/dL or below) – and just 38 percent of people with gout had their sUA levels checked within the past six months, the timeframe recommended by the American College of Rheumatology. Additionally, the majority of gout sufferers don’t understand the importance of taking daily uric acid-lowering medications, with four in 10 incorrectly believing that they can stop taking medications when they aren’t experiencing flares.
Seeking to increase recognition of the severity of gout and need for routine sUA testing and management, GUAES hosted a professional roundtable discussion on October 3, 2015. The roundtable brought together several experts – rheumatologists, a family care physician, and representatives from the American Association of Diabetes Educators, the National Kidney Foundation and CreakyJoints – to explore how to more effectively educate about gout and improve access to public education and treatment.

In its annual report on the EU budget published today, the European Court of Auditors (ECA) warns that the budget system is too focused on just getting funds spent and needs to place more emphasis on achieving results. As independent auditor, the ECA signed off the 2013 accounts of the European Union, but stresses that the management of EU spending is not yet good enough overall - either at EU level or in the Member States.
Throughout the 2007 to 2013 spending period, say the EU Auditors, the priority was given to spending the money - ‘use it or lose it’ - rather than to achieving good results. For instance, the choice of projects to receive EU funds focused first on disbursing the EU money available, secondly on complying with the rules, and only then - and to a limited extent - on results and impact.
