It’s not just external factors, such as UV exposure and free radicals, that cause our skin to age, there are also processes within our bodies that contribute to skin aging. The scientists at the ARTISTRY Center for Skin Health Research have dedicated countless hours researching extrinsic and intrinsic combatants of the skin. Their findings have led to a new understanding of how skin ages and the production of a crème that can help skin act up to 15 years younger. So after decades of trying to find the fountain of youth, ARTISTRY® Skin Care and Cosmetics may have done so with the creation of Crème LuXury! The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), with help from The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA] and Iridium Communications Inc. [Nasdaq: IRDM], has successfully implemented a new space-based system to monitor Earth’s space environment. Known as the Active Magnetosphere and Planetary Electrodynamics Response Experiment (AMPERE), the system provides real-time magnetic field measurements using commercial satellites as part of a new observation network to forecast weather in space. This is the first step in developing a system that enables 24-hour tracking of Earth's response to supersonic blasts of plasma ejected from the sun at collection rates fast enough to one day enable forecasters to predict space weather effects. Many farmers claim that their cows produce more milk if they are allowed to listen to classical music. British scientists have found evidence confirming that theory. Their trials show that cows are particularly partial to Beethoven and REM. Now the Dortmund Concert Hall is helping 180 cows in the town of Burscheid to enjoy particularly exquisite music. The dairy cattle on the farm Thomashof are being treated to the highlights of the 2010/2011 season. Concert audiences can even taste the result in the form of Dortmund 2010/2011 Season Concert Milk.

Two Merck research scientists, Nancy A. Thornberry and Ann E. Weber, Ph.D., will receive the Discoverers Award, the highest honor from the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), during a ceremony tonight at the Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, N.J. They will be recognized for their leadership in the discovery of JANUVIA®, a once-daily pill that helps patients with type 2 diabetes control glucose in conjunction with diet and exercise. Though women have been part of teams honored with the Discoverers Award in the past, this is the first time in the award’s 24-year history that women alone have won. Thirteen 12-meter antennas manufactured by General Dynamics SATCOM Technologies have been successfully installed at the 16,500-foot-high Chajnantor plateau in Chile, home to the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) astronomical observatory. Located in the Andes mountains, the 115-ton, highly specialized antennas form part of an 11-mile-wide international astronomy project. When it is completed in 2013, scientists will use the observatory to study portions of the universe at a level of detail that is beyond what current astronomical technologies provide, studying the origins of galaxies, stars, and planets.
