The 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit is where the global automotive community converges every year in January and the future of transportation is revealed. This year over 500 vehicles will be on display from 40 manufacturers, and, including some of the most innovative designs in the world as well as never-before seen debuts.

Mit dem neuen Rapid dürfte Skoda das richtige Auto für die Chinesen haben, die sich zum ersten Mal überhaupt ein Auto kaufen. Auch wenn das für uns kaum vorstellbar ist, gibt es davon im Reich der Mitte immer noch eine ganze Menge. Opel ist nach fünfjähriger Abstinenz wieder auf der wichtigsten Automesse Chinas und hat dazu drei neue Modelle, die im Laufe des Jahres dort auf den Markt kommen werden, mitgebracht. Die Autoshow in Shanghai zeigt, dass das Auto im boomenden China einen ganz hohen Stellenwert hat. Auch wenn inzwischen das Thema Umweltverträglichkeit wichtiger geworden ist, als noch vor einigen Jahren, ist es mehr als nur ein Transportmittel. Vielmehr ist das richtige Auto ein Accessoire um sein Image aufzupolieren und Eindruck zu machen. Und Europäische Autos werden deshalb auch zukünftig in der Käufergunst weiter vorne liegen.
Am Vorabend der Auto Shanghai 2013 hat der Volkswagen-Konzern bei seiner traditionellen Group Night nicht nur die automobilen Highlights seines Markenspektrums gezeigt, sondern auch seine Verbundenheit zum Standort China unterstrichen. Ist es doch genau 30 Jahre her, als im April 1983 der erste in China gefertigte Santana vom Band rollte. Eingerahmt von zahlreichen künstlerischen Darbietungen, die begeistert beklatscht wurden, wurden aber auch die auf der Messe zu besichtigenden neuen Modelle gewürdigt. Angefangen von den beiden Weltpremieren des VW CrossBlue Coupé, mit dem die Wolfsburger einen Ausblick in die SUV-Zukunft geben, und der Audi A3 Limousine führte die Autoparade über den XL 1, den Bentley Flying Spur, den Skoda Superb, den Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse, der Seat Leon SC und den Porsche RS bis hin zum Lamborghini Aventador LP Anniversario. Und auch der Motorradbereich fehlte natürlich mit einer Ducati Chavel ebenso nicht wie Lkw von MAN und Scania, die aus Platzgründen allerdings vor der Halle geparkt werden mussten.
Fifteen of 17 booster seats introduced in 2012 earn the top rating of BEST BET from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, evidence that more than ever, manufacturers are designing seats to provide good safety belt fit for booster-age children.
The improvements mean that BEST BET boosters now outnumber seats in any of the three other categories for the first time since the Institute released its inaugural booster ratings in 2008. Boosters are supposed to improve how adult lap and shoulder belts fit children so the belts can properly restrain them in crashes. BEST BET boosters correctly position belts on a typical 4-to-8-year-old child in almost any car, minivan or SUV.
The much anticipated Porsche Macan compact SUV, the fifth model line for Porsche, was ceremoniously unveiled to a massive international audience during a press conference at the L.A. Convention Center in Petree Hall today. The Macan was the brightest but not the only highlight that Porsche brought to Los Angeles. The new 911 Turbo Cabriolet, 911 Turbo S Cabriolet, the Panamera Turbo S and Panamera Turbo S Executive, and the 918 Spyder also took a bow to the many journalists either as world premieres or North American debuts.

The 2014 Subaru Forester is the first vehicle to ace every aspect of the challenging small overlap front crash test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). ====== 2016 Tesla Model S ========
We owned a 2013 Tesla Model S for 18 months and despite numerous dealer visits and maintenance issues, we were ultimately sad to see it go. It's quick, comfortable, quiet, spacious, and can tote as much cargo as some crossover SUVs. The "85" version can go 265 miles on a charge, so range anxiety is a nonissue. We even drove ours from L.A. to New York in less than three days using Tesla's free Supercharger quick-charge network. We definitely have gripes, including some underwhelming interior trim pieces and a lack of small item storage. There's also the below-average reliability, although our dealer experiences were exceptional. So even though it's not perfect, the Model S remains our favorite electric car.
============2016 Kia Soul EV============
Kia's first real foray into the electric vehicle world is a success. In fact, the funky Soul is arguably more appealing when it swaps out its internal combustion engine for an electric motor. In our testing, the Soul EV went farther on a charge than its similarly sized and priced competitors, and then recharged quickly thereafter. It also doesn't suffer a reduction in cargo space versus the non-EV Soul, meaning it provides the utility of a small SUV rather than that of a small hatchback like its rivals. A long warranty and generous features are other benefits.

BMW's i3 is a remarkable vehicle. Its main structure is made of light yet strong carbon fiber instead of the usual steel or aluminum. This helps reduce the i3's weight, which pays dividends for both electric range and performance. With its electric motor in back and the battery under the floor, the i3 boasts sporty acceleration and handling.

You want your plug-in hybrid to be a head-turning sports car? Look no further than the BMW i8, the two-door supercar for the environmentally conscious. No other automaker bothers to offer a hybrid version of its three-row SUV. But Toyota's Highlander Hybrid doesn't earn a spot in our Buying Guide purely by default. It continues to show just how well the hybrid formula can be applied to a big, family-friendly crossover SUV. The hybrid version earns a 28 mpg combined estimate, or 7-8 mpg better than the V6-powered Highlander. In addition to that, the Highlander Hybrid offers solid build quality, respectable acceleration, a sophisticated and quiet ride quality and plenty of standard and available features.
====== 2016 Toyota Camry Hybrid 2016 Toyota Prius =====
Substantial changes last year vaulted the Toyota Camry Hybrid onto our top-recommended list. Although it doesn't quite match the fuel economy of some competitors, the real-world cost of that difference is negligible. Plus, dismissing the Camry simply because of an mpg or two would mean missing out on an otherwise compelling sedan. Comfort remains a Camry priority, but this latest Camry Hybrid also handles pretty well.
====== Hybrid Cars 2016 Ford Fusion Hybrid / Energi =====
The 2016 Ford Fusion Hybrid is a great choice for car shoppers who are new to hybrids. It's quiet, comfortable and feels very much like a normal family sedan, while delivering the fuel economy you expect from a hybrid. It's also a Ford Fusion, which means you also get impressive refinement, good road manners and plenty of standard and available high-tech features.
