Al Maryah Island in Abu Dhabi was a beacon of celebration this New Year’s Eve after playing host to a spectacular firework display, which lit up the sky of the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) capital at midnight.
More than 8,000 visitors descended on Al Maryah Island, Abu Dhabi’s business and lifestyle destination, to see in 2016. They enjoyed an unforgettable night of family fun and entertainment, which saw live performances from DJs and musical acts, Zeina Aftimos and Hamami Trio. Thousands of fireworks were launched from buildings in Abu Dhabi Global Market Square, the commercial heart of Abu Dhabi's international financial center, and barges in the Arabian Gulf.
Visitors were virtually connected to festivities from around the world, with live footage being displayed on a variety of screens, and an interactive earth globe that lit up when a new country welcomed in the New Year in its time zone. An assortment of festive food trucks, shopping and casual dining at The Galleria, five star feasts at Rosewood Abu Dhabi, a Winter Fair and a dedicated Kid’s zone, were also enjoyed throughout the night.

Today, on the International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, the Global Freedom Network (GFN) has brought together leaders of the Christian Catholic, Anglican and Orthodox, as well as Buddhist, Hindu, Jewish and Muslim faiths who have jointly declared one common humanitarian endeavour: To eradicate modern slavery by 2020 throughout our world and for all time as a crime against humanity.
A number of faith leaders spoke at the event and video messages were given by His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and by Grand Ayatollah Sheikh Basheer Hussain al Najafi who could not attend the ceremony but are equally committed to eradicating modern slavery and human trafficking.

Heute fand im „Maison de la Chimie“ in Paris die Pressekonferenz #ChangeTheNumbers der L’Oréal-Stiftung statt. Dort wurden die Ergebnisse einer exklusiven internationalen Studie vorgestellt, die gemeinsam mit dem Meinungsforschungsinstitut „Opinion Way“ durchgeführt wurde. Ziel der Untersuchung war es, die Gründe für das Ungleichgewicht in der Wissenschaft zwischen Frauen und Männern besser zu verstehen sowie Hindernisse aufzudecken, denen Frauen bei einer Karriere in der Wissenschaft gegenüberstehen.
David Macdonald, Direktor des Förderprogramms For Women in Science von L’Oréal betonte auf der Veranstaltung, dass sich die Öffentlichkeit nicht darüber bewusst sei, wie stark die Vorurteile über Frauen in der Wissenschaft noch immer in den Köpfen der Menschen verankert sind. Heute bewegt sich der Frauenanteil in der Wissenschaft nach wie vor auf geringem Niveau: Nur 30 % aller Forscher sind weiblich.1
Als Ergänzung zu dieser Studie hat die L’Oréal-Stiftung darüber hinaus Erfahrungsberichte von Preisträgerinnen, die im Rahmen des For Women in Science Programmes ausgezeichnet wurden, hinzugezogen. El pasado domingo 5 de junio, El Dasa, protagonista de la exitosa serie “El Vato”, ofreció un concierto gratuito en Universal CityWalk™ presentado por NBC UNIVERSO donde fans de todas las edades acudieron a ver a su ídolo. El popular locutor de la Súper Estrella 107.1 FM, Eddie “Piolín” Sotelo, estuvo a cargo de la conducción y de presentar al talentoso y carismático cantante de Hermosillo, Sonora. El Dasa arrancó el concierto cantando “Perdí el Sombrero”, el tema principal de “El Vato”, la serie original de NBC UNIVERSO creada para el mercado hispano en Estados Unidos. Luego le siguió con “Alegre y Enamorado”, un tema que rinde tributo a todos los estados de México y donde la emoción de los asistentes se sintió cada vez que se mencionaba su estado natal. Pero el ambiente se prendió cuando el Dasa empezó a bailar con sus movimientos sensuales de cadera al cantar “Mentirosa”. La canción que desató gritos efusivos fue cuando El Dasa dedicó a todas las damitas “Por ser Bonita”. Aparte de cantar sus éxitos y otras clásicas canciones de banda, los asistentes tuvieron la primicia de escuchar “Ya me vi”, el primer sencillo de su nuevo material discográfico que saldrá a la venta este verano.
