The football World Cup is just around the corner and all over the country the most delicious recipes are popping up for exciting match days. But what do Brazilians eat during matches? What is the culinary landscape of the host nation really like? We make a little culinary foray through São Paulo, the biggest city in the country and serve up some gourmet tips from Brazil.
Maracanã – the word causes goose pimples among football fans the world over. With a capacity of 200,000 spectators, it was the largest stadium in the world in 1950. It represents the greatest drama in Brazilian football, as well as the greatest hope, to win back the title this year, as the Maracanã will host the final. However, criticism of the stadium reconstruction will not go away.

Präziser als jeder Kompaktwagen zuvor definierte der erste Golf GTI vor 37 Jahren ein Ur-Maß der Dynamik, zudem machte der erschwingliche Volkswagen die automobile Sportlichkeit für mehr Menschen denn je erreichbar. Jetzt startet eine neue, die siebte GTI-Generation durch.
Sogenannte Concept Cars sind auf allen Automessen der Hingucker. Sie sollen zeigen, was die Autobauer für die Mobilität der Zukunft entwickeln. Oft wird aus dem Blick in die Zukunft aber auch nichts. Die Studien wären für eine Serienproduktion dann doch zu teuer gewesen, oder zu praxisfern, oder es wäre einfach nicht mehr die Akzeptanz bei den Käufern vorhanden. Dann wandern die Konzepte nach ihrem glorreichen Messeauftritten still und leise ins Museum oder die Schrottpresse. VW hat mit einem ambitionierten Projekt bewiesen, dass es auch anders geht. Das 1-Liter-Auto erschien zu Beginn vielen Skeptikern noch als reine Utopie. Als VW in Doha den Prototyp des XL1 durch die Straßen fahren ließ, war aber klar, dass es sich nicht nur ein imageträchtiges Marketingprojekt handelt. Spätestens als in Genf die Kleinserie des XL1 ins Scheinwerferlicht rollte, mussten Zweifler erkennen, dass VW es ernst meint.
Weltpremiere auf der Auto Shanghai 2013, der wichtigsten Automesse in China, feiert das VW CrossBlue Coupé, mit dem die Wolfsburger einen Ausblick in die Zukunft geben. VW-Design-Chef Klaus Bischoff: „Das neue Coupé lebt von einem harmonischen Dreiklang. Es ist robust im Auftritt, sportlich in den Proportionen und von zurückhaltender Eleganz in der Skulptur und den Linien. Diese Studie wird zweifellos Einfluss auf künftige SUV-Modelle haben.
Zuversichtlich gab sich heute auf der Hauptversammlung der Volkswagen AG in Hannover der Vorstandsvorsitzende Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn gegenüber den Aktionären: „Trotz aller gegenwärtigen konjunkturellen Unwägbarkeiten sind wir guten Mutes, mehr Fahrzeuge als im Vorjahr zu verkaufen, den Umsatz erneut zu steigern und auch beim Operativen Ergebnis das hohe Vorjahres-Niveau zu erreichen".

Automakers from around the globe are gearing up for the grand opening of the 2017 Chicago Auto Show, which opens to the public on 10am. Saturday, Feb. 11, at McCormick Place.
Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White and Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle are expected to be on hand Saturday, Feb. 11 for the ribbon cutting ceremony, which will officially open the 2017 Chicago Auto Show. With more than one million sq. ft. of exhibit space, the show is the largest in North America and has been held more times than any other auto exposition on the continent.
Taking center stage at the 109th edition of the Chicago Auto Show are more than 20 vehicles that made their world debut during this week’s Media Preview, including Dodge Durango SRT; Ford Expedition; Hyundai Elantra GT; Mitsubishi Outlander Sport; Nissan TITAN King Cab and Midnight Editions; TRD Sport editions of the Toyota Tundra and Sequoia; Subaru Legacy; and Volkswagen Atlas Weekend Edition Concept.
