The current student loan debt crisis in the U.S. is real. Total student loan debt currently stands at more than $1.16 trillion. Barcelona is hosting the third edition of the Wine & Culinary International Forum today, a biennial international conference dedicated to food and wine pairing promoted by Bodegas Torres. Over 250 professionals, including sommeliers, restaurant owners, distributors and journalists from almost 20 different countries, participated in the event. Celebrated in the Palau de Congressos de Catalunya, it provided a forum in which to reflect and discuss the complementary relationship between wine and food under the heading “Wine and World Cuisines.”
The president of Bodegas Torres, Miguel A. Torres, opened the event, which featured talks, tastings and culinary demonstrations by a total of 20 national and international experts who are highly regarded in their fields. Among them, Josep Roca, sommelier at El Celler de Can Roca; the award winning wine-writer and journalist Sarah Jane Evans MW, an expert in Spanish wines as well as the former Chairman of the Institute of Masters of Wine; the prestigious French enologist Pascal Chatonnet, one of the leading researchers into the microbiological factors involved in the interaction between wine and oak; Canadian researcher François Chartier, a pioneer in the aromatic science of molecular food matching since 2004 and author of Taste Buds and Molecules, world’s best innovative food 2010; the renowned French wine critic Michel Bettane; and the endocrinologist Dr. Francisco Tinahones, a researcher at the University of Malaga.

Today, European construction giant and international contractor VINCI Construction and French solar innovation specialist Sunpartner Technologies announced a new 50/50 joint venture and launched a new connected smart glass window dubbed “Horizon.” The two companies initially partnered in April 2016 to develop and market innovative photovoltaic solutions for construction applications.
Featuring photovoltaic panels and multiple sunlight sensors, the new Horizon opacifying and communicating window can be adapted to any project, from new construction to renovations.

A recent study found that only 47% of Americans are currently taking steps to prevent bone loss1, despite considering it to be of high importance. In an effort to educate the public about the importance of bone health, Sunsweet Growers has partnered with the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) to support their annual World Osteoporosis Day (WOD) campaign. For the second time Consumer Electronics China (CE China) is opening its doors at the Convention and Exhibition Center in Shenzhen, China. The premiere in 2016 attracted more than 11,500 visitors when over 150 exhibitors presented their latest products and innovations. The Mexico Tourism Board (MTB) reported that its 2017 Meetings and Events program has led to significant growth in the industry sector, showing a 6.7% increase from January to October, when compared to the same period in 2016. Mexico has taken a leadership position as a destination for meetings and events with the relaunch of its strategic partnership program with meetings industry organizations and initiatives that aim to elevate its ICCA ranking, as well as to increase the economic impact of the meetings and conventions industry in the Mexican economy, which currently accounts for US$25 billion. The International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) ranks Mexico as 3rd in Latin America, 5th in the Americas, and 21st globally for meeting and incentive travel.
“The meetings and convention industry is a crucial part of our growth plan focused on elevating the average expenditure of travelers,” said Hector Flores, CEO of the Mexico Tourism Board. “We are continuing to invest in building Mexico’s profile for business events and are working closely with industry leaders around the world to bring more corporate and association events to Mexico while introducing them to destinations beyond our traditional sun and beach offerings.”
