Belfast is set to mark the 100th anniversary of the launch of one of the city’s most famous creations – RMS Titanic. On May 31st 1911, Titanic was launched into Belfast Lough by Harland & Wolff – then the largest shipyard in the world. It took three years to build and just 62 seconds to complete the launch. To mark the occasion, there will be a special slipway event attended by the Lord Mayor of Belfast, dignitaries of Cherbourg and Titanic societies to reflect Belfast’s maritime heritage. There will also be a flare set-off to mark the moment exactly 100 years ago when the Titanic was launched. Some of these guys are huge but they pretty much only deal with photographers. I wonder how they would be in a proper situation like a pirate attack on a boat http://www.horizonsecuritysolutions.co.uk/security-services/maritime-security

Ringing out, as it has for centuries, the mission bell beckons across the hillsides calling out to the devoted. Here, where lush hillsides meet the Pacific Ocean, we pursue a singular canon—to make great wine. Canon 13 Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Santa Lucia Highlands, our answer to the mission bell, launch nationwide in July to on-premise retailers. “The Santa Lucia Highlands are as unique as the people who settled them,” says Canon 13 winemaker Tom Klassen. “Sitting high on a bench overlooking a fertile valley, the vines grow deep in the alluvial soils that cling to the hillsides. Our fruit is protected by the maritime breezes that bring with them a gentle fog, ensuring the grapes ripen evenly and provide our wines with supple texture and fragrant aromatics found nowhere else.” Canon 13 is inspired by our geographic birthplace at the Soledad Mission, the 13th mission located along the El Camino Real, the historic 600-mile stretch of road connecting dozens of missions and pueblos beginning in the late 1700s. The steep Santa Lucia Highlands are located along California’s central coast, near the cool waters of Monterey Bay on the flanks of the Santa Lucia Range. The region is graced by warm days, cool nights, rich soil and an evening fog that nurtures the delicate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes. As Christmas is nearing, Hamburg is all dressed up for the occasion: during the Advent season, 16 different Christmas markets in the city centre will attract over 6 million visitors – making Hamburg the Christmas capital of the north. No other European Christmas destination offers such diversity, ranging from the elegant/nostalgic market on the Rathausmarkt and the cool/erotic Santa Pauli market in the legendary Reeperbahn entertainment district to the exclusive/maritime market on the Jungfernstieg and the gay/lesbian market with its DJ set in the hip St Georg quarter. While there are countless ways of celebrating Christmas, Hamburg’s locals are well acquainted with traditional Christmas carols such as “Silent Night.” During the Advent season, this classic German song can be heard at Christmas markets across the city. The port city of Hamburg is Germany’s most international, cosmopolitan and multicultural city, and if you listen closely at one of the Christmas market’s mulled wine stands, you will find that this popular song is actually being sung in various different tongues. What results is a festive “Holy Hamburg Christmas Carol” – sending Hamburg’s seasonal greetings around the world. To experience the Hamburg Christmas feeling, visit www.hamburg-tourism.de/christmas and the social web using the #HolyHamburg hashtag.
